Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple Inc., was widely recognized as the pioneer of personal computer technology, and for his advancements in the consumer electronics fields. However, years before he became well-known, it was the free enterprise system that allowed him to start his own business. The free enterprise helped Steve Jobs create a powerful and influential tech company.

NeXT was not, however, the end of Steve Jobs. (Change Slide) In 1986, Jobs paid filmmaker George Lucas $10 million for a small firm called Pixar that specialized in computer animation. "Over the next six years Jobs poured another $40 million of his own money into the company. That film was Toy Story, a huge box office hit. In 2003, a rare tumor called the neuroendocrine tumor was found in Steve Jobs’s pancreas. Jobs kept avoiding his doctor and surgeries. But 9 months after the tumor was found, he finally agreed to have surgery. The surgery was successful and gave Jobs another six to seven years to live. Blumenthal said about his situation, “The prospect of death kept him focused on what was most important to him, prompting him to shift direction when he stopped making the most of each day” (246). Jobs took several medical leaves from Apple and finally, he resigns from Apple on August 24, 2011. This left many people worried if Jobs was going to be okay; he was not. After Jobs’ comeback, everything about Apple became better. From new products such as the iTouch, ipod, iPhone, iPad, Jobs’ ideas rained down new products that Apple’s rivals just could not catch up. Although some people prefer the complex computers from Windows, most everyday people want a electronic device that we know how to function and control. Jobs was able to bring to the common people what they really needed with his simplicity in most of his products and his user-friendly applications. Jobs led Apple until August of 2011 when he stepped down from CEO seat of Apple, and six weeks later, passed away in Palo Alto, California, the city Apple was born.

Our world of technology today is what the world is run by. Technology is much different than what it was thirty years ago. We would not have the technology we have today if it weren’t for Steve Jobs. We wouldn’t have any of the Apple products that half of America uses if it weren’t for Steve Jobs work. Steve Jobs was a very intelligent person. He created many of ideas and objects. Some people would consider him a god to the technology world because of everything he created.

Steve Jobs was an accomplished leader and innovator in technology, having helped found and lead multiple companies throughout his life. Jobs’ passion for his work was arguably the most important factor that went into his success in achieving the American Dream. Some argue that he took his passion too far, pushing his family and personal life away in order to focus on his work. Their argument, however, is formed without regard to the fact that the products he created would not be as creative and useful as they are today if he failed to put in as much love and attention to his creations as he did.
