1. The two most important things I learned from my volunteering experience are that all kids need attention and positive support. Whether they effectively seek it out or not and that kids comprehend significantly more about what is going on than they can express in words and therefore the environment provided at child care centers can have a big impact on the child’s early development. While working with the kids I thought that it was anything but difficult to pay attention to the cutest kids who were continually smiling and needing my attention. The children who were the trouble makers, and the initial few times I volunteered, these were the children who got the majority of my time. For the shyer, less vocal kids I discovered I needed to try to collaborate with them and once they got more comfortable around me, they were more likely to need me to lift them up when they got hurt or scared or play with them. Through this experience I understood that the greater part of the kids required a lots of attention, even the ones who did not want it at consistently. I understood the significance of making each kid feel vital and cared for by adults. I discovered that the kids could see a great deal more about what was going ahead around them then I foresee. Leadership is being able to guide other students into being the best they can be. I am a leader who is always positive and cheering others on to achieve their goals. At my school, I have a position as the Vice President of Academics in National Honors Society. Since I have obtained this position, I encourage other students in this group to participate in service projects which is where one volunteers to help out the community in some aspect. These volunteering opportunities are good thing to do because it builds character and it is always fun helping others out. As a leader, I bring new ideas to the table on where we should help out in the community and anything that we could do in school that would fun and helpful. Along with participating in National Honors Society at my school, I am also involved in our Student Government Association. Although I do not have a leadership position in this club, I still engage in the activities that we do. For the past two years, I have gone to an annual meeting for leadership where multiple schools attend. The strongest example of my leadership and community involvement has been my service to my high school through Student Senate as the Student Body President. In this position I have been responsible for planning and coordinating events, running weekly morning meetings, giving speeches, communicating between my advisors and councilmen, and being an active leader in and out of the classroom. I’ve learned a lot about people while in this position, I have found a way to work with other people and their needs, as well as becoming a very effective communicator, and a great team player.

A leadership experience in what I positively influence others and helped resolve disputes was Link Crew. Link Crew is a program where we help incoming freshmen to high school and show them around school and help them out on anything they need like homework. When I was a link crew leader I helped many kids who had low grades. While I was in this program I noticed that many kids had low grades and didn't turn in work or even their homework I did my best and talked to them about how they will struggle so much to get there credits later on some kids listen and did all their work where they at least passed their classes with a D or C. I had people who I got to meet during this I communicated with many people who joined this program and helped many kids. Students who come to high school think it will be very easy like in middle school but it will get harder each year. Many times I was helping the students I feel like It influenced them to work harder and be better in school and help each other in some ways. Link Crew was such a good program that it was where others students helped other students. I showed many leadership experience by joining this program.

One experience I have had is getting to take part in peer coaching. In that class, I assist the Special Ed students with their school work, and help show them how to behave in class. When I explain to other students what the class is, they almost always say “I want to do that”. As an introverted leader, this is how I demonstrate my influence. ​A community that I am actively involved in is the J.Kyle Braid Leadership Foundation also known as ELITE at my high school. The J.Kyle Braid foundation is a club that I take part in through my school, but is a nationwide foundation. In my second year of high school, I was chosen to take part in a leadership training at the J.Kyle Braid ranch in Colorado, where I met 19 other girls from different schools. I learned from working with peers who are leaders at their schools. Being surrounded with other teens who share my desire to make a difference, was a life-changing experience. To understand the importance of volunteering, I volunteered at one cultural event in San Antonio downtown. It was the festival of Diwali, a festival of light celebrate in India every year, organized by the San Antonio municipal and Indian Association. In San Antonio’s downtown we have a Riverwalk and the booth was on one side of river with the bleacher and on the other side was the stadium. Folk dances of India were performed on the stage. I volunteered at a booth of drink. My job was to sell soft drinks like coke for a dollar. I made a working there on the booth and we both had almost same interests due to that I was very surprised. This quote is not only applicable to teens, but college students as well; unfortunately, college students become isolated from the rest of the world while they are in their course of study and do not make time to give back to the community that helped them become who they are.
