The Last Suffering Ship Reflection
The illness has taken its first life and people are starting to panic. By this point the crew has done all they can do to get the repairs done pushing them self to exhaustion. The nurses and helpers are tenting to all the patients and distributing the vaccine as fast as possible and to the right patients. I believe the way they are only giving half doses out and waiting to see who doesn’t show signs of getting better before giving the full dose is working and an affective way to calm more people down. I would try and isolate patients from non-sick passengers as much as possible to help prevent spread. For

Rhonda the nurse is doing a great job taking care of the patients. She might be rude and angry at times but when you don’t get much sleep and are working so hard with patients that are constantly whining and bugging you trying to get something out of you that you cant give them, yeah your going to be grumpy. She is doing her job and being very firm with her patients by not letting them coax her into anything that would disrupt her work. Putting out chores for the passengers to do like cleaning and even helping wherever they can will help not only keep the ship clean and possibly get I fixed faster, it will also take their minds off of the issue at hand and possibly even release some stress they have built up. The passengers need to be doing something other then just sitting around watching people get sick. Once you can get people to start helping out around the boat you will have less aggravation and stress build up. So we get back to shore and the media wants to interview the leading doctor (Me). Handling the media is a big deal and takes very good and clear talking. You need to present yourself professionally and sympathetic to the passengers. Trying not to say to much into detail about what happened is key too. You don’t want to leak bad things to the media so they can blow it up making you and the ship-liner look bad. The
Shipwreck at the Bottom of the Worldvividly recreates one of the most extraordinary adventure stories in history. In August 1914, Ernest Shackleton and 27 men sailed from England in an attempt to become the first team of explorers to cross the Antarctic continent from one side to the other. Five months later and still 100 miles from land, their ship,Endurance, became trapped. The expedition survived an Antarctic winter in the icebound ship, then, afterEndurancesank, five months camped on the ice followed by a perilous boat journey through storms and icebergs to remote and unvisited Elephnat Island, 600 miles from Cape Horn. From there, their only hope was for someone to fetch help. In a dramatic climax to this amazing survival story, Shackleton
In the first chapter, all of the characters seem to be getting seasick, with Sister Anjali showing more severe symptoms of typhoid fever (Verghese p. 18, 2009). The boat’s small environment allowed for germs to easily spread and cause sickness. In order to alter the outcome of disease from an environment, special precautions to make sure that housing and rooms are not crowded and are safe. The ship also did not bring any medical equipment, necessary in a smaller environment (Verghese p. 23, 2009). Sister Mary Joseph praise is not highly educated in nursing, due to the social determinant of her parents disapproval of her faith and their unawareness to her job as a nurse (Verghese p. 16, 2009). When she begins to work under Dr.
The source is valuable for understanding how the sinking of the Lusitania caused violence within Liverpool. The source suggests that one reason why the riots occurred was due to public outrage. O’Mara states that that the ‘names of the drowned’ were ‘appalling’. This is supported by the fact that Liverpool was ‘Lusitania’s home port’. This would have caused locals to feel personally attacked by the sinking of the Lusitania. To add, the majority of those who were lost in the sinking were from the Merseyside. Over 150 of those who died were from the city of Liverpool, this would have added to the rage of the riots as the tight-knit community would have known people affected by the sinking, O’Mara goes on to talk of the ‘cries of the women whose
“The war to end all wars” was what people called it. Others called it “The Great War”. Many people died in this war. And there was really no right or wrong in this war; meaning that I don’t think there really was a side that was wrong or right, and I’m going to explain why further in this essay. I think both sides were wrong in things, but in the end, Germany was the one that suffered the most because they were being forced to pay billions dollars in the war debts, and let the French control a rich mine for well over 15 years. But before that Germany and the Britain’s were at war with each other. And Germany sent out a warning to everyone saying that every ship crossing the war zone line (which was the
Imagine traveling to the “Happiest Place on Earth”, Disneyland, with your family. While you are there a person that has not been vaccinated is walking around with the measles virus in their system. While that person shows no signs or symptoms of the measles, they are infecting others that haven’t been vaccinated, due to young age or other purposes. Now what turned out to be many people’s family vacations is now a life-threatening situation for some. This type of outbreak actually occurred during December of 2014, where 40 Californians were exposed to the measles at Disneyland and 91 additional cases of the outbreak strain also occurred from the people exposed affecting others (Blumberg et al, 2015). Outbreaks likes this can potentially be
At the first possible outbreak of SARS, the nurse will need to follow protocol. The initiation of the protocol begins with an assessment of the patient. A doctor will determine if the patient is possibly infected with SARS by following the physical and epidemiologic criteria. The Center of Disease Control and Prevention mandates reporting to the all cases where the patient has pneumonia of an unknown origin, and could have recently been exposed of the SARS virus [ (Center of Disease Control, 2005) ]. Once the report has been made the community health nurse should have all hospitalized patients with respiratory symptoms questioned on their recent history and possibilities of contact with the virus. Next, the community health nurse needs to educate staff and the community about possible ways to contract SARS, and encourage behaviors such as, frequent hand washing, covering their nose and mouth while coughing or sneezing, and using and properly disposing of tissues for respiratory secretions. [ (Center of Disease Control, 2005) ] Once health care members and the public are educated on the route of transmission they can prevent being exposed. Confirmed infected patients would be transferred to Seattle, where they can be in isolation rooms, patients can be more critically monitored, and research centers can be of benefit to
NPR’s transcript “Forgotten Ship”: A Daring Rescue as Saigon Fall,”tells readers the the fall of saigon was chaotic and desperate. It’s shown as a chaotic time because of the amount of helicopters that were trying to land on the USS Kirk, Mr Paul Jacobs said “it looked like bees flying everywhere”. I’m inferring that the thoughts going through everyone's head is what is happening in Saigon. An example of the desperation in Saigon is when “a chinook came out...Hovers over the fantail, opened up its rear door and started dropping people out of it”. These people were so desperate they jumped out of a helicopter this is an insane example of desperation.
Health care governments have endorsed an assortment of vaccination policies and mediations to safeguard against the known dangers of influenza communication, with longer patient stays, absenteeism, intermissions in health care, and death. Studies assessing the consequence of health care workers vaccination found that health care workers influenza vaccination was linked with a decrease in patient death (Murana, 2014). Assessing the results of health care worker influenza vaccination on patient results anticipated that if all health care workers were vaccinated, patient influenza infections could be stopped.
The government would try to control the outbreak by taking the people who need to be quarantined into a high medicated center where they could be treated within a matter of minutes. While they are in intensive care, the people who are related to or was living with them needs to take a vaccine. So if they were to get it, their immune system would take care of it. Although it would take a couple of days to recover from the disease if it was taken care of in time. What I mean by that is if a person who had the disease who didn’t see a doctor within a matter of 48 hours than their chances of surviving would be minimal.
A starship is on its way to populate the New World, because Earth was destroyed by a colossal catastrophe. The ship originally could sustain thirteen colonists; unfortunately, the ship was damaged and now can only sustain five colonists of the thirteen. The colonists who should stay of the ship and survive, need to be the colonists with the most importance and essential experience for traveling to a New World. Even though the New World could provide a variety of different outcomes, the colonists who should survive need to be the ones who would provide the most safety precautions in certain situations.
We think that daily spot hire rate will likely decrease next year. There are two reasons. First, there are 63 new vessels scheduled for delivery in 2001 to increase the supply of vessel and only few old vessels need to be retired, while the demand will not increase because imports of iron ore and coal would remain stagnant over next two years. Second, exhibit 5 shows that avg. spot rate of 2000 was higher than the rate of previous years and avg. 3-yr charter rate. In addition, the market will seemingly go up after two years. Therefore, ship owners should hope to sign short-term contract through using lower daily spot hire rate rather than locking low daily high rate for a long period.
“Rosette was born the same day that Gambo disappeared. That is how it was. Rosette helped me through the worry that they would take him alive and with the emptiness he left in my heart. I was absorbed in my daughter. That Gambo was running through the jungle pursued by Cambray 's dogs occupied only a part of my thoughts” (Allende, 134) Those words are said by Zarité, the main character of the book Island Beneath the Sea by the Chilean Isabel Allende, translated and published in the United States on 2009. It starts on the Island of Saint-Domingue (actual Haiti) from 1770 to 1793 and the second part, take place on Louisiana, USA, from 1793 to 1810. About the main character, Allende said: "Of all the characters I created, that of Zarité for me that I have more the feeling that existed". While Island beneath the Sea, I have been clarifying, predicting and finally, evaluating.
Ocean Carriers Inc. was approached in January of 2001 with a contract proposal for the leasing of one of their ships for a term of 3 years beginning in 2003. Ocean Carriers currently has no ship to accommodate the customer. To commission the construction of a new vessel would take 2 years from start to completion. The average rate in the spot market is $22,000 per day. Ocean Carriers deployed a younger fleet than average carriers and generally earned a 15% premium over the average daily rate placing them in position to capitalize in strong economies. However, the industry is volatile and suseptable to extremes both low and high. Many ship owners sought to sign contracts with time charters in order to shield themselves from the swings
Barbara faces a bewildering array of obstacles to success in the General Surgery Unit (GSU) at Eastern Massachusetts University Hospital. Based on reputation alone, it was clear that her new unit had serious issues long before she took her position as Nurse Manager of its 33 member nursing staff. Having held an informal, off site meeting with her nurses, she has identified 9 of their chief complaints. These complaints can be mostly categorized under three of the most common stressors: incivility, work overload, and
The world has experienced a total of four pandemics within the twentieth century. These pandemics, as horrific and deadly as they are, have brought so much more positive advances to our health care system and how we prepare for biological threats. Although we are in the twenty-first century and we have advanced so far in healthcare, there is still the possibility of a deadly pandemic.
