Why We Should Allow Syrian Refugees into America Fear is taking over. All around you is fear, surrounding you, taking control. We let the fear sway our emotions, our perceptions, our ideology. Everything is constantly changing because of what we fear. Our morals are being betrayed because of fear; our instincts are being denied because we give into fear. That is why so many people are afraid to let innocent, terrified people into our country. Although, many see the Syrian refugees fleeing from the crisis into their country as a threat, there is no reason to be afraid. The refugees should be allowed into the United States. Many people however, don’t believe these things and are still frightened. They may say something along the lines of …show more content…
Because of fear, people have the misconception that the refugees could bring disease or illness that would cause widespread sickness or death. In all reality, there is no reason to worry about such things. The CDC has a detailed list of all known ailments and their cures (if known): “ Diseases & Conditions A-Z Index” (Office of the Associate Director for Communication, Division of Public Affairs) So, during the process that all people entering and leaving the United States must go through, these ailments would be recognized and cured; and the refugees would be perfectly healthy for their eventual settling in the U.S. Our system for this scenario has been gone over multiple times and tested on hundreds of people; and we know that for all those people, it has worked. After going through all the precautionary measures America has in place, the refugees entering the country will pose no threat to the health of our …show more content…
There is a multi-stage, multi-year process that occurs only after they are vetted by the United Nations that is in place to make sure that this does not happen: “The history of the U.S. refugee program demonstrates that the lengthy and extensive vetting that all refugees must undergo is an effective deterrent for terrorists” (Bier). Plus, from the perspective of ISIS, the refugees are traitors. Not only that, but, none of the attacks that have occurred in America have been because of ISIS, they were all “inspired” by ISIS: “ According to ISIS, Syrian Muslim refugees are traitors to the radical Islamic cause. ‘It is correct for Muslims to leave the lands of the infidel for the lands of Islam, but not vice versa,’ one ISIS video said in September” (Bier). More-so, considering that the only ISIS members that have slipped through the system were caught within the matter of five days or less ; before they had the chance to cause any damage: Since 1980, the U.S. has invited in millions of refugees, including hundreds of thousands from the Middle East. Not one has committed an act of terrorism in the U.S. (update for those unwilling to read the source, the Boston bombers were not refugees)” (Bier) this does not seem to be a problem. Because of the systems we have in place, there is no logical reason that anyone should be afraid that there could be
The idea of Syrian refugees emerging over to the United States seems to have been the talk for the past few years here in the United States. Although, over the years the argument of whether Syrian refugees should be granted the opportunity to enter the United States or to not to be able to, has always been a tough compromise. For countless of years refugees have been fleeing their homeland to find a new place to call home just to get away from the war. In spite of refugees fleeing the countries, many of the families are having a hard time trying to find new homes. However, the United States has to protect its country from the possible terrorists that the Syrians could bring with them if we allowed them to enter the United States. The civil war over in Syria has Syrians continuing to fight for their lives every day. Syrian refugees should not be allowed to enter the United States for the substantial amounts of attacks that those Syrians could pose.
To begin with, 100,000 Syrian refugees are trying to come to America and some people are considering to let them come into the the county because they believe it is morally correct. Equally important governors of small cities say that allowing this refuges to come to america will give the economy a little boost because they will help bring up the population in the small cities. Although some of these statements could be correct, there is still a vast majority of people that believe this a terrible idea. 100,00 syrian refugees coming to America what stops all of these humans from becoming terrorists, I know that the last time they allowed refugees come to america only 3 people tried becoming terrorist, but what
But many refugees have tried to make attacks in Europe and those were inspired by Islamist extremism. But here in the United State it wouldn't happen because there is a better way of screened the refugees are let into the country.
Walter Kirn, an American novelist and literary critic, stated that ‘‘Everyone loves a witch hunt as long as it’s someone else’s witch being hunted.’’ (Web. Walter Kirn Quote) Although the Salem Witch Trials took place over 300 years ago, in 1692, and we claim that we have come a long way since then, the truth is we have not. The hysteria that took place during the witch trials occurred because people refused to take responsibility for their actions. The same thing is happening in modern day America due to a 4 year long civil war, in Syria, and a mounting war on terrorism, in the United States. Syrians are fleeing their country because of the impending civil war, of 4 years, between those loyal to President Bashar al-Assad and those who oppose him, the rebels. Accepting refugees from war torn countries has always been something the United States has done, even if it caused some controversy. However, there has never been more controversy on whether or not to accept refugees from Syria. This is because of the terrorist groups in Syria who have continued to execute fatal attacks on Westernized countries, specifically the United States. A number of U.S. citizens do not want to accept Syrian refugees for fear that some refugees could pose potential threats or have relations with the terrorist group, ISIS.
Refugees are individuals that are being forced to flee from their country of citizenship to another in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster. Western society tends to be judgmental towards people who do not look like their own and so it is very difficult for different cultures to be treated fairly. Recently, President Trump implemented a law that band Muslims, due to the stereotypically classifying them as terrorists. Muslims are being classified as others and treated very poorly due to their religious beliefs and instead, that should not be the case. In the media, Muslims are also portrayed poorly and they are seen as individuals coming to America to take over the country, when in fact they are just regular individuals seeking
Many U.S. citizens have no problem with Syrian refugees coming to America. According to both “Why America Could-and Should-Admit More Syrian Refugees.” and “Our Responsibility to Refugees”, The authors feel that The people of the United States are turning their backs on the refugees. In “Why America Could-and Should-Admit More Syrian Refugees.” the author says, “The United States has resettled over three million refugees, offering victims of persecution and conflict the opportunity to build a new life. Refugee resettlement is unequivocally safe. It would be wrong, both morally and politically, to curtail Syrian refugee resettlement, and why it is in fact both ethically imperative and politically expedient to instead expand U.S. commitment to refugee resettlement” (Long). This author sees nothing to fear from refugees. Furthermore, the writer of “Our Responsibility to Refugees” states, “The U.S. can do more and we must. Since 2011, more than 4.2 million Syrians have been displaced by war and violence, and fewer than 3,000 of them have resettled in the U.S. President Barack Obama has committed to resettling 10,000 Syrian refugees in the U.S. His administration needs to
The United States should allow the Syrian refugees into the country because we can benefit from it. The intelligence and work strategy of the Syrian refugees can be a great asset to our work field since a lot of Americans are unmotivated and uneducated. In the article Ailing Vermont, it states that “ I saw an opportunity to grow our population, bring in individuals, families with a strong work ethic, who were fleeing for their lives and looking to rebuild their shattered lives.” This evidence from a reliable source informs us that people from Syria have a good work ethic which can benefit us in many positive ways. To conclude, the united states should allow Syrian refugees into the country because they can bring a new and
Many people believe that the United States should not let Syrian refugees into the United States to escape war would damage the country’s safety and way of life, but the U.S. should allow them in because it provides these immigrants such as humanitarian aid, safer families, a well- rounded education, and a strengthened workforce. As the Syrian Civil War rages, ISIS bombs the Middle East, and Russia targets airstrikes, thousands of Syrian refugees flee their home and country with their lives. Children cannot go to school and parents are running out of money. They need aid, but in the war-torn cities there is little help that these people can find. Separated from their jobs, livelihood, and families, they can
In many cases individuals are label as refugees after being permitted to stay in the United States after applying for admission. Most of these immigrants have fled due of the fear of persecution due to their race, social clique, political officially, religion, or national origin. The admission of refugees turns on numerous factors, such as the degree of risk they face, membership in a group that is of special concern to the United States (designated yearly by the President of the United States and Congress), and whether or not they have family members in the United States. (American Immigration Council, 2016) After the events of September 11,2001, the number of approved admissions fell due to the increase in the complexity of security checks. The Department of Homeland Security determined the total amount of refugees’ admission permitted into the United States for 2016 was approximately 85,000. For those that individuals that reach the United Stated before applying for refugee; there is option for them to seek out asylum within the country. The individual must declare that they are seeking asylum at any port of entry or within one year after arriving in the United States. Currently, the immigration policies don’t limit the number of individuals who are granted
Four years ago, a civil war erupted in Syria after President Assad’s security forces fired into a group of peaceful protester, killing several of them (Syria), and starting a conflict that has rocked the stability of the world today. Now, as we go into the beginning of 2016, the world faces a refugee crisis unlike any other, and pressure is being put on many of the the world powers to give Syrian refugees a safe haven inside their countries. However, with taking in these refugees comes risk. America has always been a beacon for immigrants of all races and ethnicities for ages, but with the rise of a new terrorist group, with an obvious vendetta against America, the United States is having a difficult time determining whether or not it is safe to let these refugees into the country. Americans are faced with a decision. We can close ranks and turn helpless people away out of fear, leaving them to die or suffer some other unknown horrible fate, or we can put our fear aside and embrace these people with open yet cautious arms.
In conclusion, I strongly agree and support the ideas of allowing more Syrian refugees to United States since it’s all global responsibility to give them equal opportunities to survive. These refugees suffered from the war and were also the victims of the Islam State and the terror group. We can’t judge someone by his or her religion beliefs or where they came from. Therefore, we should accept and welcome them!
At the moment, Syrian refugees are being subjected to the most precautionary methods when entering the country (Text 3). The Syrians are trying to escape the many violations they are faced with. In Syria, there are many bombings that are killing innocent people. Using precautionary methods based on race shows that America is well on their way to banning the refugees from entering the US. While Americans might think that using precautionary action is the best, they are supporting an unethical act. However, it is worse because they can do something to stop it, yet they refuse. Syrians are running from powerful individuals who have taken their rights, seeking asylum in America but they are almost treated the same because they are not trusted. If America were to ban immigrants from entering the US then they might be repeating history. During the 1940s, Hitler took it upon himself to purify Germany of Jews (Text 2). The action of Hitler led to a world War because of the unethical actions he took to get what he wanted. The fear of many Americans are holding them back from helping innocent children and women. If Americans can look past the fear of having their country destroyed by the refugees then they would be helping alot of people. Americans can provide a safe haven for the refugees but they are too afraid to allow
The welcoming of numerous Syrian refugees into America is contentious, likely to cause or is causing an argument. It 's no secret that our President, Barack Obama, made a promise, a year ago, to bring in at least 10,000 Syrian refugees in the next fiscal year. Those who are all for it believe showing our morals, using non-government help, bettering our economy, adding to our diversity, and strengthening our alliance is what will come out of allowing them through. The opposers feel that the likelyhood of them being terrorists is to great, they will be too expensive, have to use our taxpaying dollars, could over populate, and push us away from potential job oppurtunities, that is why they shouldn 't be allowed here. Are you for it, or are you against it?
One problem with letting in refugees is the security risk. Refugees are coming in from dangerous countries like Syria, Iraq, and countries in the middle east. The reason they are leaving is because of safety reasons, but how do we know that they are not going to create a safety risk in our country. Refugees have to go through a lot of tests and they get searched before they enter the country, but can we trust the machines to detect anything that create a security risk?(Huffington Post 2) . Letting in the refugees can create terror acts just like what is happening in
Over 300,000 refugees are waiting at the borders of our country waiting to be accepted into our country. My question is why. Why would our great country want to weaken ourselves by letting illnesses and terrorism into our country, especially when they did not help us in the past? The United States should not accept refugees because of many reasons including terrorism, stealing jobs from U.S citizens and bringing sickness and unknown illnesses into our country. Hundreds and hundreds of terrorist attacks have occurred in our country the only blameable menace are us letting in refugees in. Thousands of refugees are working immediately, and illnesses are spreading to Americans in our country as soon as these refugees enter our country. Knowing all of these issues is it really worth letting them in?
