I do agree that Federal SS hasn't received raises to keep the with the cost of living (COLA). The COLA was created by Congregress in 1975. The price of gas effects the COLA formula so, when gas prices go down too much it can in itself trigger if SS recipients receive a raise. Whoever created the above "poster" got two important facts wrong. First, no one receives $172,00 in a year. It would take the adverage SS recipient 11 years to make $172,000. If the creator made a typo and meant $172.00 they'd still be wrong. Those 65 and older (retirement benefits) is $1,304.25 per month.
