The Affordable Care Act was passed to provide American’s better access to health insurance coverage. In addition to better access the ACA improved health care quality and lowered health care cost. The ACA reformed health insurance by expanding coverage, holding insurance companies accountable, lowering health care costs, guaranteeing more choices, and enhancing the quality of care. Although some states have not implemented all the benefits of the ACA, most citizens do have access to health insurance. This paper will address some of the general highlights of the ACA, how it impacted healthcare and the nursing practice.
My name is John Brentwood. I am a 56-year-old retired individual who is currently not receiving health insurance as I fall into what, post ACA, is labeled the “coverage gap.” By detailing my life story and discussing the Supreme Court’s decision to make Medicaid expansion voluntary, I hope to convince you to consider finding a way to reinstate Medicaid expansion for all states.
When the Affordable Care Act(ACA) came to the table, much was promised with the passage of it. Until then, America was a multiple payer system, with ACA the goal was to turn America into a system that provides universal coverage and reduce the uninsured. The Kaiser Family Foundation Tracking Poll found that in 2016 the uninsured rate was at an all-time low, with the non-elderly population dropping from 16% to 10% uninsured. The ACA has a view of not only helping the public health wise but also economically helping the nation. Healthier nation means a healthier economy in the long run. Three of the economic benefits that will be looked at here are as gotten from the Obama Whitehouse website “1) Putting more money in families’ pockets,
Because millions have been able to free ride the health care system Obama emplaced a new health reform changing thousands of lives, making healthcare affordable for all people and giving citizens who are already covered new or more benefits. Healthcare has always been a pricey yet necessary asset to life. In the 1920s the middle class seemed to have struggled with the growing cost of medical visits. In the late 1920s a Dallas hospital started to offer joint affordable healthcare for only $.50 a month. Soon other states started to use the same method. The US began to identify the process as the Blue Cross. In that same year the stock market crashed and the Great Depression started. Essentially crushing everyone's financial stability, the
For many Americans that could not afford health insurance before due to having to pay high rates out of the pocket for doctor visits or any kind of medical treatment, Obamacare has certainly brought many benefits including the help from government programs such as Medicaid to provide insurance to those that are still unable to pay for the costs and need assistance by increasing the eligibility for government programs as the statement “In addition, the law increases Medicaid eligibility to non- Medicare eligible individuals with incomes up to 133% of the federal poverty line.”, by authors Filson, C. P., Hollingsworth, J. M., Skolarus, T. A., Quentin Clemens, J., and Hollenbeck, B. K. on the article at the World Journal of Urology on February
The Obamacare has a lot of benefits that most people don't know about. That's because Americans has been hit with fifteen times more negative than positive, most people think it only affects insurance companies, but also already changed the way health care is being delivered, The Obama care is the popular and frequently misunderstood name patient protection and affordable care Act in 2010. The federal government spends $933.7 billion on healthcare alone, that's even more than any budget items according to the FY 2015 .
Another advantage to Obamacare is the fact that they place limits of out of pocket charges. When an individual has a procedure that is not covered by their insurance they are forced to pay from their own hard earned money. The fact that Obamacare put a cap on the out of pocket charges does not make the charges go away. There are other ways to lessen the burden of costs then the methods of the affordable care act.
Large corporations typically self-insure paying their employees' medical bills and hiring insurers to administer health benefits, while small businesses purchase group health coverage from insurers and face cost-increasing regulations as they go through the annual ritual of renewing their coverage. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) says that an employer must provide full-time employees with comprehensive health insurance for businesses that have over a certain number of employees. While businesses under a certain number of employees won't get penalized for not offering coverage. This is important because if you are a small business employee with very little take home, this gives you the option to allot that money for coverage or not. The cash value
