The Dark Knight Trilogy Hero's Journey

Through the beginning of “Batman Begins”, the creators of the movie used flashbacks to detail the journey of Bruce Wayne and how he has changed from the beginning of the movie to the end. By showing the flashback of Bruce Wayne in the car with Rachel, the creator of the movie managed to show the audience where Bruce Wayne stood on a moral level and how he was the complete opposite of what he came to be as the movie progressed. In the car scene, Rachel tells Bruce that his father would be ashamed of him for considering murder as a form of justice and a way to make a change. The use of flashback also played a role in how Bruce overcame his fear of bats and managed to make it into a symbol.

The first point is highlighted on many occasions, from times when he gets badly injured yet keeps on fighting, to times where he lets his emotions for people get in the way of true “justice”. This may be due to the fact that he is trying to avenge his parents' death. During one of the episodes, there was a device that could show the deepest secret of a person and Bruce Wayne used this device. From this it was revealed that a major reason for him becoming Batman was because of the incident. Throughout many of the episodes, this theme appears many times.

Sitting by his parent’s dead bodies, Bruce Wayne vowed to take vengeance upon the criminals of Gotham City.

Batman is introduced as the child, Bruce Wayne, son to Thomas and Martha Wayne. While returning home from a theater performance the Wayne family is approached at gunpoint. Bruce is forced to helplessly watch as his father is shot through the chest attempting to intervene, followed by his mother in the criminal’s attempt to silence her screams. This tragedy would see to Bruce swearing vengeance on any and all criminals, ultimately culminating in the birth of the vigilante, the Batman.

In a movie where good and evil are divided by a very thin line, the Dark Knight rises up to fight against injustice and corruption in Gotham City. An action sequel to the original Batman Begins, this installment is a lot darker filled with more explosion, twists, and suspense. For the first time, a comic has been integrated into the issues of the real world. With the help of District Attorney Harvey Dent and Lieutenant Gordon, Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining mob members and clean the streets of Gotham for good. Their success is only short-lived when they encounter the Joker, a mysterious mastermind who is out to prove that nobility cannot hold in a world of anarchy.

The final chapter of the Christopher Nolan Batam triology is concluded with the Dark Knight Rises. The Dark Knight Rises begins eight years after the death of Harvy Dent. It tells the story of Bruce Wayne, who has been doormat during those eights years becoming the Batman agiain. Batman is faced off against Bane, who tries to destroy the city of Gotham with a nuclear bomb in order to fulfill the mission of Ra's al Ghoul. The main theme presented in the Dark Knight Rises is the battle of good vs evil, hero vs villain.

The Dark Knight, a fictional film, portrays the havoc that takes place on the citizens of Gotham City as Batman, also known as Bruce Wayne, tries to fight injustice while moral dilemmas are being thrown at him. The struggles that he face ties into hegemonic norms, which are the social, cultural, ideological, or economic influence exerted by a dominant group (Dr. Burke). This includes the Joker’s challenging the hegemony, the heroic face, Batman’s heterosexuality and male power identity, and Rachel Dawes’s assisting Bruce’s hegemony in anyway that she can. The Dark Knight is not just a tale of good and evil, but a complex puzzle where the citizens of Gotham are blaming Batman for the deaths of innocent people and policemen.

Batman: The Dark Knight directed by Christopher Nolan is non-stop action thriller that continually did the unexpected. The film is based off of the original Batman comic book but additionally changes the perception of the everyday world as good to naturally bad. Throughout the movie, Batman stands for honesty and goodness while the Joker is a symbolism of chaos and evil. Both sides are forced to make quick-witted decisions in order to stop the opposing vigilante from doing his desired work. The citizens of Gotham are put in the heart of this circumstance and feel obligated to go against their values to stop the chaos. Batman is one of the many fictional superheroes which appears in the “American comic books” that is published by the DC comics. The character is a secret identity for Bruce Wayne, the only heir to Wayne Enterprises. Bruce Wayne swore an oath of vengeance when he witnessed the death of his parents;Thomas Wayne and Martha Wayne (Diamond, 2015). Bat man combats criminals in Gotham: a fictional city, with assistance from various characters, for example, his butler Alfred and Gordon; Gotham city police commissioner. Unlike many of the superheroes characters, Batman possesses no powers .Bruce Wayne trained himself intellectually and physically .it is from dedication to training he possessed the useful traits of physical prowess, martial arts skills, detective skills and indomitable will to fight for justice. Though his motive is to combat crime and protect people of Gotham city from criminals, the justice system in most of the times views Batman as a villain and vigilante. He can inflict fear to Gotham city criminals thereby bringing calmness to the city. Another way in which Batman displays himself as a Byronic hero is his function as a subversive character which refuses to submit to demonic forces. He tries to appear to be a man who is morally upright. However, Batman is unable to separate himself from the pain of his parents ' untimely death, which gives him a new identity as a mysterious masked crime fighter. In most books and films, he tries to put this tragic incident behind him without much success. As Peter J. Tomasi indicates, “instead we see a presentation of Batman’s powers by exacting strange acts in the name of justice like teleporting hotheaded” (1).

When comics were first coming out, they were not all that popular but in todays’ world, they have become very popular and well known. Several of these comics have been turned into films, which is one of the many reasons why the popularity has been rising over the years. One of the most well known comics is Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. This comic was composed and released in 1986 by Frank Miller. With the usage of Frank Miller’s powerful, intense lines and the artwork done by Klaus Janson’s and Lynn Varley’s it has elevated this comic up to the very top of mainstream comics. In Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, the skillful illustrations on the pages successfully create the thought that there are underlying meanings, which makes the atmosphere a very intense one throughout the comic. The work of art that is presented on the pages in this comic are embedded in such a way that the pages become the continuum for the meaning. One of the main themes that are imbedded on the pages through the artwork in this book is the ideological struggle between Bruce Wayne and Batman.
