The death penalty, also known as capital punishment is a legal procedure in which a state executes a person for crimes he/she has committed. This punishment has been implemented by many states, and is normally used for atrocious crimes, especially murder. It is also used on crimes against the state such as treason, crimes against humanity, espionage, and violent crimes while other states use it as part of military justice. There are mixed reactions on capital punishment depending on one’s faith, and the state they come from. In my view, I am not in favor of death penalty, as I strongly believe that, death penalty is unacceptable and an inhumane practice for it denies one the right to live. Even though supporters argue that death penalty is a relief to the family of a person who was murdered by the convicted criminal; it is not true, their pain cannot be healed through the retribution or vengeance by death penalty. Therefore, killing a criminal cannot overcome a crime nor bring back the life of the person who was killed by the person convicted of murder. Death penalty sends a bad message to the society. The people in the society are made to believe that human life has no value, and when one commits a heinous crime like murder, they deserve to die. This is a bad message to the society because, the society should be taught to respect each others life and that every individual has a right to life. A humane society does not kill or support the killing of their fellow human beings, therefore, capital punishment is a violent homicide that teaches the society the permissibility of killing in order to solve social issues, and this is a bad sign. Hence, death penalty should not be allowed because it is the worst example to the society. Death penalty should be scrapped because it can lead to the execution of innocent people. The justice system is bound to make mistakes and so, the accused people should be given a chance to appeal, and prove their innocence other than being murdered because of mistakes made by judges. There are many cases whereby individuals are imprisoned and
Death penalty is a constant source of controversy and divided opinion depending on who you ask. The punishment of death is given to criminals who commit severe crimes. The severity of crimes that attract the death penalty is debatable due to the severity of the crime. The justice system is based upon punishment for crimes committed by emphasizing the punishment fitting the crime committed. Countries such as China and Singapore, and United States, issue the death penalty to punish murderers or rapist, therefore fueling the already going debate on how to befit the punishment is in such cases. All the death penalty aims to achieve is the punishment to those who break the rules. The death penalty has well documented weaknesses as well as strengths. Not least of is brutality and finality, some of these frailties lead to the calls for its abolishment. The death penalty is inhumane. Wrongly applied as well as completely unjustifiable sometimes killing innocent people irrespective of the crime. Life sentence of imprisonment without parole or pardon achieves all that the death penalty seeks to achieve without costing the society its moral standing and families losing those they love.
Death penalty is a punishment of execution administered to someone legally convicted of a capital crime. Some say revenge is sweet but giving somebody the death penalty for killing someone else is bitter. It makes no sense to execute an individual that murdered another person. Capital punishment does not solve anything, nor does it fix the problem. We as humans should not dictate who leaves this world being that the gift of life is more sacred than a one-week trial. Instead of somebody coming back to life, now you have two dead people. There are many reasons as to why I believe the death penalty should be abolish. Some of these reasons are it is expensive, a person can be wrongful executed, and it does not deter crime.
Capital punishment can be a tough topic to approach because people tend to have many different opinions on it. The death penalty is an advantage to society; it deters potential criminals as well as serves retribution to criminals. There is a huge difference in expenses of a lethal injection and life in prison. The death penalty can be an extremely beneficial tool in sentencing criminals that have committed some of the worst crimes known to
As to why and how it benefits society. One of the main reasons is that it will make police officers focus on ways to prevent crimes and find the criminals. Not on going to court and taking all that time to decide how the criminal will pay for his crimes. Abolishing death penalty will be a big advantage because a lot of money and time will be saved. Anyways, there is no need in death penalty existing because it doesn’t stop or lower the murder rate. When a criminal is committing crime they don’t think about the outcome they just do. So that is not a valuable reason on why death penalty should be legal. In the end death penalty should become illegal in all the states and be replaced with alternative
The death penalty is a good source of punishment because if a person commits a murder they deserves to be punished. However, the death penalty is cruel, inhuman and degrading. The death penalty disregards the eight amendment; which states that “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted” (U.S Constitution). The death penalty is unconstitutional because it violation of the eight Amendment. The death penalty serves as a double negative. Why kill someone for committing a murder? The death penalty does not solve the crime, fix the problems that were caused by the crime, or teach anyone a lesson. Not only does the death penalty violate the eight amendment it also violates basic human rights.
The death penalty does not keep crime from happening. Over the years, the death penalty has been a very major moral issue within today’s society. This particular form of punishment is usually given to people who have been found guilty of capital crime. However, penalizing an individual in this manner is not a solution to the problem. The United States is already in a tremendous amount of debt and dealing with budget shortages, so spending thousands even hundreds of thousands on ending an individual’s life because they were found guilty of a crime is absolutely absurd. The death penalty costs taxpayers way more per year than a prisoner within the general population. It is a cruel punishment against mankind and therefore should be ceased. In conclusion, the death penalty should be discontinued in the United States because it uses up tax
The death penalty is engaged to show governmental power and is used against people to show others that you will not have the right to live if commit such a terrible crime. People have been killed by the death penalty for many reasons such as treason, terrorism, espionage and murder. Having the death penalty gives closure to the families victim, justice is better served, and deters criminals from committing crimes. Think about if you were close to a victim who traumatized or even killed by a master criminal. You would want the same to be served to the harsh owt law who endangered your
First, death penalty should be remained because the rate and number of serious crime(murder) changes before and after the countries the abolition of death penalty. According to the data of Canada, Canada has not executed since 1962, moreover, abolished death penalty in 1966. Since then, the number of murder per hundred thousand people and the number of murder is clearly increasing. Then, let’ look another data, France, which abolished death penalty in 1981. The data shows that the number of murder per hundred thousand people and the number of murder is clearly increased per 10 years. These data say that when countries abolish death penalty, the number and rate of serious crime such as murder must be increased.
In addition, to the death penalty bringing closure to a victim or a victim’s family and acting as a deterrence, the death penalty is also a good idea because the criminal can face consequences for his or her
“The death sentence is a barbaric act . . . It is a reflection of the animal instinct still in human beings.” Said by Nelson Mandela. The death penalty is a very heated topic with strong opinions on both sides. There is a cornucopia of articles and statistics that support both sides. Although it is a more moral and personal option but there were a few facts that truly outweighed the benefits of the death penalty. The death penalty just has so many factors that could cause problems in the prisoner’s death. Although the prisoner may have desired corporal punishment, it does not justify a cruel and unusual death. Nelson Mandela had such a view back in his time that still holds up to this day. I believe the death penalty should be completely banned in the United States because the cost is ineffective, killing is an irreversible act, the methods are inhumane.
Death penalty satisfies the saying ‘ 'an eye for an eye’ ' which doesn 't significantly eliminate crime. I believe there are other terms of punishment for those offenders such as life-time prison. Death penalty is rather useless in terms of eliminating crime. Although a lot of states have eliminated the use of capital punishment 's , there are few states that still practice death penalty. therefore, we must put an end it all. Death penalty is barbaric and an unusually cruel punishment. There has been countless controversial arguments about abolishing capital punishment over the years, some believe that the punishment challenges our declaration of independence, some believe it 's barbaric and others just simply think it 's cruel when an
Capital Punishment is not an appropriate way to punish any criminal because no one should have right to take another human's life, be it good or for the bad. Therefore, the state or the government should not posses that right. Therefore it should be abolished. it is unfair , unjust and immoral punishment; risk of being killed an innocent is not ruled out. Capital Punishment is more expensive than life imprisonment. Capital Punishment is cheapens the value of human life; Racism exists in Capital punishment. Capital punishment is a highly controversial and emotional subject. Thus it should be abolished.
The death penalty was created to punish people for crimes that far exceeded the average punishment of prison time. Many people argue that the penalty is too “harsh”, however I believe that the crime fits the punishment. The death penalty is only applicable to heinous crimes such as murder or terrorism. The penalty has been used to end the lives of some of the cruel criminals to ever live. Criminals that have been sentenced to the death penalty include; Timothy McVeigh (the Oklahoma bomber), Ted Bundy (notorious serial killer/ rapist), Saddam Hussein (notorious terrorist leader). It is obvious that the penalty has been put to good use over the years.
The death penalty has become an extremely pressing issue in our culture today. Both sides of the argument make very valid points. On one side the death penalty could potentially make citizens feel more safe, and on the other hand people can argue that us as mere humans do not have the authority to “play God.” I believe the death penalty should be abolished for a variety of reasons; our government is a broken system, a proposed law would not end all murders, and we, as humans, should not have the authority to determine whether someone lives or dies.
However if we review the evidences and arguments in depth, it is fair to argue that death penalty should be abolished since firstly, it is an unethical and unjustified punishment. Secondly, it is ineffective at preventing crimes and finally, there has been much evidence of it being arbitrarily imposed.
