A utopia is a world or place that is perfect in every way, and a dystopia is a world or place that has major flaws and is horrible. (The Giver) is a dystopian society and that is because they kill the smallest of any one twin, also they have drugs that keep them from hitting puberty. The Community in (the Giver) and our society are similar and different because parts of the world and the Community have people that make decisions in society, and MOST of the nations do not kill twins like the Community does.

In Jonas’s world their community is a dystopian society. Their community is a dystopia because the citizens have no choices, the society is in “Sameness”, and the people who run the community make all the decisions.

In The Giver by Lois Lowry, Jonas’s community is oblivious to lf their world is a Dystopia or a Utopia. The community is a Dystopia. According to the passage “Utopias and Dystopias”,a Dystopia is a Utopia which things have gone wrong.An Utopian society is a place we can only dream about. Jonas community is no dream they are completely controlled. Jonas society is ruled by the Chief Elder. The Giver describes three different ideals including lack of knowledge, sameness,and complete control.

The Giver, a young adult fiction novel written by Lois Lowry, tells a story about Jonas, a curious boy trapped in a futuristic society full of contentment, rules, and the elimination of emotions such as fear, hatred, etc. When he begins to see The Giver, an old man who holds all of the past memories of the community, Jonas realizes a dangerous past and becomes the first to begin on a journey to escape the community to protect his loved ones and himself. I feel that this book has a lot of depth and emotion that blends together with Lowry’s great literature, making it special. The book does have a few minor flaws, yet it doesn’t fail to impress as it makes readers think deeply about life and what you make out of it. Here are the reasons why I recommend this book.

Through the control of the elders, the people living in the community lose their ability to control and understand the world. They are unable to express their thinking, choose their life and are even restricted from building connections with other people. The author shows that the beautiful appearance of the community creates an illusion of freedom, however this does not translate into any real decisions in a world full of lies.

The Giver, a bestselling novel by Lois Lowry, was very popular with teens. It was eventually adapted into a film. Although the film received heavy criticism for failing to adhere to the actual storyline, it still became a theatrical blockbuster. The film changed many scenes and even the characters themselves, including their ages, jobs, and roles in the movie. Many other details were added or changed from the book. There was much more action and even some romance.

Jonas never thought his life would change along with the whole community because this “Utopia” did everything they could to ensure that any change would occur. During this process he experiences feelings for the first time like pain, anger, sadness, happiness, love. This community also has many controls over their citizens , and most things are forbidden. The novel The Giver by Lois Lowry is based on a dystopian society, and has many characteristics to follow.

A boy named Jonas is chosen to be the receiver of his community, and is taught about the importance of love with memories from The Giver. Jonas proves his love for the community in many ways such as caring for Gabe, Fiona, The Giver, and leaving the community to give everyone else the memories. Jonas and the Giver are the only people that can feel love, and this causes Jonas to act differently around his friends and family. Although most people around Jonas can’t feel love, he finds ways to get around that and act in a new, loving way. Once Jonas learns enough about love, he realizes that a life without it is meaningless.
