Most of society’s think domestic violence is when one of the spouses is abusing the other spouse. Domestic violence can occur between anyone who has lived together at one point of time; couples who have never lived together, but have a child together and family member who has live together in the same household. Domestic violence can happen to anyone, regardless of their class, religion, ethnic background, education, age, gender, disability status, sexual orientation, gender presentation, or immigration status. The domestic violence can place in different categories, such as; emotional abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, sexual abuse and financial abuse. Researcher had discovered tactics that the abusers use to control their victims such as; dominance, humiliation, isolation, threats, intimidation, denial and shifting blame. (Helpguide.org).

The domestic violence field at first was, was a field I never saw myself interested in. Now, after the trauma in my past I have met some incredible people who work in this field and perform amazing work by helping these people. My therapist Erin Scholezenski, is a trauma therapist that only works with children and adults that have suffered trauma through domestic violence, self-harm, rape, verbal and physical abuse and major trauma events such as the Aurora Movie Theater Shooting. She has her own private practice in Parker, Co and is the Director at Aurora Mental Health Center off Parker and Hampden. Going into this interview, I went in knowing some background of domestic violence but not knowing how this field can impact the therapist that is helping these clients get past their trauma. I wanted to know how domestic violence has affected her life and why she stopped working with perpetrators. I made this my main focus of the interview.

I provided detailed information about how domestic violence has existed for many centuries and domestic violence was not considered a crime. In addition, I presented vivid examples of women from different cultures that have experienced domestic violence. I even provided information about an interview I conducted with one of those women. Furthermore, I explained which groups are more vulnerable to experience domestic violence and the reasons why these women do not live their violent partners. In addition, I discussed information in regards the effects domestic violence cause to women. Also, I presented information about the resources that are available for women who experience domestic violence and also the reasons why many women do not seek those services. I believe our society needs to work harder to eliminate or reduce domestic violence against women. Domestic violence against women is an epidemic that can only be confronted by providing more resources and by putting more emphasis in the media that domestic violence is a real thing happening in the 21st century. I feel that there are no much resources available for women who experience domestic violence. It is necessary to bring more programs that focus on the topic of domestic violence to help women from low income and those from minority groups that lack information on how to protect themselves from domestic
