Have you ever been to a zoo or a wildlife refuge? You have seen the way the animals act for our entertainment. I feel that animals should be left in the wild where they were naturally meant to live. In zoos, they have limited space; some zoos even show cruelty to their animals. Animals are being taken out of their natural habitat only for the owners to make money off of them. I feel strongly that having animals in captivity for human enjoyment is not what God intended to happen. In many of the zoos that i have witnessed have had small living quarters for the animals. In both articles “The Impact of Animal Protection” and “Do Animals Lose in Zoos” they both talk about having limited space at zoos and wildlife reserves. I have gone the Oklahoma City Zoo and seen some of the larger animals enclosures. Some of the larger cats in particularly seem small holding the seven or eight cats at a time. In the article, “ Do Animals Lose in Zoos?” it says, “Big cats have been seen endlessly pacing.” This is due to them being locked up and not able to run …show more content…
According to the passage “The Impact of Animal Protection” it says “In the wild, animals share territory with other species, and the idea of survival of the fittest is very apparent.” it also mentions that the innate instincts they have to survive can be hurt and sometimes gone if they are kept in captivity for too long. The animals are more likely to be hurt by predators because they forget the their natural ways from when they were wild and untouched by the human kind. Others may say that it’s great for many of the to be in the animals to be in zoos mainly for the entertainment to them when they go to see the animals. However I still feel that it is not necessary for them to be locked away in the captivity of zoos for human needs they have their own needs to you
Zoos, rehabilitation institutions, and many other environmental centers provide opportunities for the public to witness animals that cannot be seen on a daily basis. Whether to keep animals in captivity is morally hard to decide, especially for me personally. In the essay, “Against Zoos,” by Dale Jamieson, he writes about the positives zoos provide, and then reiterates them; making positives turn into negatives. Jamieson makes statements about humans being superior over animals, and how we should not be thinking that we are better. We tend to take a lead role over other species, because of our “higher intelligence.” That should not mean that we treat wildlife as if they are something lower than us. In more ways than one, we as humans are
Millions of people visit the zoo to see the animals and they believe that the zoos are inhumane and that the animals should not be kept in captivity. I am both ways, I think they should be kept in captivity but then again I feel bad and they should be.
In paragraph 4 of the article ”Do Animals Lose in Zoos?” it says “Zoos spend millions of dollars to create bigger and better enclosures to improve the conditions for the animals.” In order to build a big zoo, the person who owns the zoo must clear out land for the zoo, which means animals homes will be wiped out. Although the money spent for bigger enclosures gives the animals improved living conditions, it would be much more efficient for the animals to just live in the wild and we wouldn’t have to spend so much money for zoos. Instead, the money spent for zoos can be used for more important things such as medical research or even animal preservations. Animal preservations care for animals that can’t fend for themselves in the wild and teach people how to help, instead of keeping perfectly capable animals in man made enclosures. Although animals in captivity do live longer, they probably are not happy with their living conditions. Therefore, wild animals should be kept out of zoos, unless they can not survive on their own, then they should be taken to an animal
Living in a world behind bars, having no sense of freedom, no thought of living in an environment where the boundaries are set by mountains, rivers, deserts and oceans. This is the life of an animal living in captivity. What gives us the right to take animals from their natural habitats and put them in an environment or home that doesn't even compare to what their home is. They don’t take us from our home and lock us up in cages in the jungle, so why should we do it to them. Imagine the problems that could come from taking these animals away from their natural habitat. Always having the thought in their head that they are never going back home. This would drive me insane and it probably drives them insane, too. Therefore, Animals should be set free in their natural habitats, because keeping them in zoos is causing their health to go decline.
Animals that are confined to zoos are prisoners. They are ripped of their families, and robbed of their happiness and freedom. Zoos cannot provide the amount of space animals have in the wild. However, Animals should never be held in captivity unless they are candidates for breeding programs or rehabilitation. It is inhumane for us to keep large mammals like elephants, tigers or gorillas in zoos or theme parks. These are highly intelligent animals with complex social constructs that scientists have studied for decades and still have yet to fully understand. Captive wild animals should not be used for entertainment. Unfortunately, using animals in a theatrical manner is what brings in the crowds and most importantly, the profits. While some theme parks may try to incorporate education into the act in order to justify running these shows, using these majestic animals for laughs and gasps is disrespectful and abusive. Children should learn to appreciate how these animals behave in the wild as opposed to how they can do tricks for rewards.
In addition, inter-generational bonds are broken when animals are eventually sold or traded to other zoos, and no pen or even drive-through safari can compare to the freedom of the wild (https://www.thoughtco.com/arguments-for-and-against-zoos-127639). Moreover, from an animal rights standpoint, we absolutely do not have the right to breed, capture and confine animals for any reasons simply because we desire to. Being an animal doesn't mean animals have fewer rights. So, unless an animal attempts an attack on humans, I feel animals should roam freely in their natural
Animals in Captivity Everyday people go to zoos with intentions of having a good time without realizing they are paying for animals to be held in captivity for the rest of their lives. In recent discussion, the decision to keep animals in captivity is a very controversial topic. Many people are towards the decision that zookeepers should keep the wild animals captive for the entertainment of others, while on the contrary many are against it. However nobody has done anything to get the animals out. The people who are against setting them free believe that the animals are living a much better life than they would outside and that they are better for keeping entertainment for the public but what they do not see is what happens when the zoo is closed and how they are treated outside of the public's eye, which is what the people who are against it tend to see.
Firstly, wild animals in captivity is inhumane. Animals in zoos are often thought of as objects instead of living beings with feelings and emotions. An example of a situation that was inhumane and proves that zoos care more about income than animals took place at the Copenhagen zoo where an 18-month-old, healthy giraffe was killed because it was considered useless for breeding. According to an article by www.peta.org “Even large, well-known, and popular zoos engage in unscrupulous practices, such as dumping unwanted animals or taking animals from the wild.” Because most of these animals were raised or born in captivity, they were not able to develop the necessary survival skills needed to survive in the wild.
Animals should not be held in captivity due to the fact they suffer physically, mentally, and emotionally.Animals are forced to stay in the same place all day and they never get to go anywhere. As stated in "Zoos:Myth and reality" "A more transparent problem is found in hundreds of substandard roadside zoos, these amateurish operations only cause pain and death to thousands of animals." What is the point in all those deaths some jobs. A job is not worth the deaths of thousands of innocent animals.
Is it OK to hold captive animals in zoos? Does being in a small confined space affect the behaviors and/or health of animals? Will animals know how to hunt and care for themselves when they are released back into the wild? Over the past few years, more and more species of animals have been close to extinction. Their habitats, food, and water sources are being destroyed to make place for roads and buildings. As referenced in the text The Impact of Animal Protection, people not only destroy the environments of animals but also hunt them for their fur, organs, or other body parts, leading to the need to place certain species of animals in animal sanctuaries and zoos to keep them safe. Although keeping endangered animals in captivity to help their
There are thousands of zoos and circuses around the world that display various animals in them. The zoos are for people to look, learn, and “protect” the animals. The zoo's also breed, sell, and buy animals. Wild animals should not be kept in captivity because while they are in captivity, they suffer from stress, boredom, and confinement, similarly they get separated from their family and environment.
Is this how animals are really supposed to be treated? Would you want to be treated like this? So why do we insist on keeping it this way? Zoos have been around for a long time, but just recently people have began to wonder if it's really what's best for the animals, or for us? So, they began talking about it, seeing if all animals, including endangered animals, should live in the wild or in man-made environments, and they started doing experiments. Many species are dying every year, and because of this, zoos are being blamed.
In the article “Do Animals Lose In Zoos?” states that “Animals in zoos live longer than animals in the wild. They are well fed, protected from predators, and treated by veterinarians”. The only reason they live longer and are well fed is because they are being pampered in a zoo to where they don't have to try and hunt for their own meal to where it is just given to them. When zoos end up releasing a certain type of animal they won't know what to do in the wild because in zoos everything
Zoos, they’re an area where animals are forced to be taken away from their natural habitats all over the world just due to the satisfaction of us humans. This debate continues to cause strong opinions from both sides of the argument. Detaining and imprisoning these innocent animals is absolutely remorseless for so many reasons. Now, even if these zoos work as hard as they can’t copy every animal’s natural habitat, behaviors, and many other factors they will never be completely accurate. That will cause many things that will go against the animal like behavioral changes to overall survival that will cause negative impact whether the zoo tries to copy the comfortable wild environment to their best ability or not.
How much do you really care about animals? Are the important to you? Years ago animals that lived in zoos were treated poorly and lived in a wire cage that was most the time to small for the animal. Today’s zoos focus on the animals more than anything. They make sure every animal is in its best health condition, properly taken care of and has plenty of room to roam, swim, fly, or climb. Zoos today also try to educate people on how they can help protect animals in the wild. Although animals in zoos are not able to hunt and their natural diet is limited, animals should be kept in controlled environments. If the animals are kept in controlled environments or zoos they will always be in there best health, in a safe away from predators, and can help increase
