Meanwhile, in addition, the text says that Scrooge is a squeezing, wrenching, clutching, covetous, old sinner. In the text it states, “Scrooge had a very small fire, but the clerk’s fire was so very much smaller that it looked like one coal, but he couldn’t replenish it, for Scrooge kept the coal in his room.” The ghost of Jacob Marley visits Scrooge and by showing him a reflection of himself, begins the reformation of Scrooge as we know him at the borderline of the story. The spirit leaves him the opposite from where he was at in the beginning. Throughout the entire beginning of “A Christmas Carol” The miser demeanor is “hard and sharp as flint from which no steel had ever struck”. The text states on page 3 how Scrooge feels about Christmas when he says to the two men who were soliciting money for the poor, “What’s Christmas time to you but a time for paying bills without money; a time for finding yourself a year older, but not an hour richer; a time for balancing your books and having every item in ‘em through a round dozen of months presented dead against you? ”

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is about three ghosts – one of Christmas past, one of Christmas present, and one of Christmas future – trying to change Ebenezer Scrooge. At the time, he is a grumpy man that does not find any pleasure in anything. When he argues with his nephew, he shows this about himself (pg. 3). The three spirits influence Scrooge’s transformation by making him a happier person.
In A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, the main character, Scrooge, is heavily influenced by Tiny Tim. Scrooge is an old, selfish, misanthropic man who despises Christmas and all that comes with it; joy happiness, and coming together with family. He is visited by three spirits, the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet To Come, who try to change him for the better. During his experiences with these spirits, he watches over Tiny Tim. He is the son of Bob Crachit, Scrooge’s clerk.
Scrooge is presented as a lonely character who has little left in life. Often he is linked to cold and darkness, perhaps linking to the demons he faces and how he presents them to others coming across as a moody, melancholics man. He has a fixation with money and how no money should be given away. Scrooge is similar to a villain in fairy tales which may be where Dickens got his character from. In the opening line of the extract Scrooge is described as "a tight-fisted hand at the grind-stone".
How can an unbearable human being transform into a warm hearted individual in a matter of twelve hours? This is a question that several of us asked ourselves while watching A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens which is a story that takes place in 1843 where on Christmas Eve, Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by a series of ghosts, starting with his old business partner, Jacob Marley. The three spirits show Scrooge, how his mean behaviour has affected those around him. Furthermore, before Christmas Eve of 1843, Ebenezer Scrooge was a grouchy miserable old man, who had a rotten
A Christmas Carol is about how one man changes from a grumpy, conceded old man to a generous, nice man. Scrooge is the main character that the book is based on. Most of the day, Scrooge usually works long hours to make as much money as he can. To Scrooge, money is everything. He won’t give it up for anyone or anything.
To start off, in many instances Scrooge showed what type of person he is, even at the beginning of the play his old friend Marley described him as a “wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner!” (paragraph 4 page 236) Which doesn’t seem like a way you would describe an old friend even if you are dead, unless the facts are undoubtedly true. However this isn’t the only occurrence in the play makes us see how Scrooge should change his ways, we see Scrooge at the beginning sitting alone counting his money saying, “They owe me money and I will collect. I will have them jailed, if I have to.” (paragraph 6 page 236) This shows how Scrooge has no tolerance for anything, although this can be good in some cases, others it isn’t the best way to treat people. Especially if you take such extreme measures very quickly, like sending someone to jail or example. But this is all about to change, because Scrooge needs to get better, he needs to learn how to treat people.
