The cold war started in 1945 and ended in 1989. It was a war between the United States and the Soviet Union. This war took place right after WWII and it is called the cold war because there were no real battles such as with tanks and bombs.

Right after the Second World War ended, the prolonged Cold War between communism and capitalism began. This war lasted about 45 years between the United States and the Soviet Union. After the fall of the common enemy, Nazism, these two nations became instant global rivals. They fought over human rights, democratic elections, individual liberties, and religious freedom. America wanted every nation to be free like itself. This push for the Soviet Union to be the same started the Cold War. Just like any other war, after it was over it brought many different new challenges to America, like great lost from war, the Red Scare, and new threats.

The Cold War took place after World War II between the years of 1947 and 1991. It was a struggle for supremacy between both the United States and the Soviet Union. The Cold War was to dominate international affairs for decades. Major crises occurred such as the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam, Hungary and the Berlin Wall being just some of the resulting issues. For many, the growth in weapons of mass destruction was the most worrying issue because it is always unknown as to what they could be used for. The Cold War was not a military conflict, but was an ongoing political conflict involving both military and economic competition between two superpowers advancing rapidly wanting to be number one. The evolvement of the Cold War began during and after World War I, although the official beginning of the Cold War was in 1945, at the Yalta Conference after World War II. There were many causes of the Cold War, but can be summed up as a battle between capitalism and communism. Also, along with President Truman 's disliking Joseph Stalin’s way of thinking and how he handling things like the desire of the Soviet Union wanting to spread communism throughout the world. Both the Soviet Union and the United States feared each other on the atomic bomb and if they were going to attack each other. Then America refusing to share its nuclear secrets, the Soviet Union needing to secure its western border, and the expansion of Russia into Eastern Europe. The timing of the Cold War was crucial and one of the most diverse in the recent world history. Not only was it a war of diversity, but a war of great length that lasted about fifty years. What made this time so significant was that the whole world was involved in this war in some way. The world was split into two opposite teams and one minor mistake could have easily resulted in another world war. The Cold War is different from most wars for the simple reason of it was a war that was never actually fought.

Many decisions made by Presidents, namely Dwight D. Eisenhower, and John F. Kennedy caused an impact on United State politically, economically, and socially.

During World War II the Soviet Union and the United States had fought together against the Axis powers. Receiving its name from the fact that the Soviet army and the United States never actually fought the name The Cold War was given, even though the United States and the Soviet Union never fought directly they had many proxy wars which developed the world as we know it today. Changing not only what happen in their countries, but in other countries, as well proxy wars are wars that are instigated by one or more major powers that do not itself participate. Some of the most famous proxy wars include Chinese civil war, Korean war, Vietnam war. The Cold war not only ignited a political challenged such as the arms race, it also challenged each of its countries in the race to space. The Cold War was a series of tension and events that mostly occurred between the U.S and the communistic Soviet Union. It lasted from about 1947, and ended in 1991 when the Soviet Union collapsed. Although it has been called The Cold War there was never any combat between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. However, the two countries greatly struggled for power and influence during this time. These two prevailing countries never faced each other directly, therefore it was a war fought by proxy. Both the USA and the USSR had conflict between their two ideologies and ways of life, the USA assumed capitalism and democracy was the optimal way of living, while the USSR concluded communism was the more suitable choice. Each country believed their system or ideology was superior to the other. During the Second World War, the two countries faced a common enemy, Hitler. Therefore, the two countries had to collaborate to defeat the enemy and had to set their differences aside, however, as soon as this war finished, the

Following World War Two, two distant political governments emerged to dictate the direction the world would take. These two governments consisted of Communism and Democracy which stared untrustingly at each other and staunched economic growth with their excessive military budgets. In the end though, Democracy would prove to be the preferred government archetype for the general population of the world.
