Resurrection is a Christian, materialist view that the body rises after death in a physical form, with the main evidence of this being the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Resurrection is central to the Christian faith as it marks the start of Christianity from the Jewish scriptures. There are many differing views about the plausibility of resurrection. Some may believe that resurrection is only based on theories, therefore not proved beyond doubt, and that these theories don't make sense. Hard materialists such as Hume will support this view, saying that death is the end and the decomposing body is evidence of that. However this opinion may not necessarily be true. The base of many theories of resurrection is the bible, which suggests that …show more content…
He argues that this is logical as if the first two arguments are believable then the final one must be too. St. Paul supports John Hick's theory that there is another spiritual world. He says it is a logical argument, and uses a plant as evidence. Paul said 'when you sow a seed in the ground, it doesn't sprout to life unless it dies'( 1 Corinthians V36) and 'God provides that seed with the body he wishes; he gives each seed its own proper body'( 1 Corinthians V38). Likewise with a person - it is a physical being and has the potential to become a 'mature spiritual person' in heaven in a replica form with forces from God. This new body however, is different as it is immortal, non-physical and higher up in the hierarchy below God and angles. This can be considered to be a logical conclusion as it supports the view from the bible that we are 'a little lower than angels'. It is also logical as it makes sense to suggest that a miraculous event such as this would come from an all powerful being, and there is nothing more powerful than God. As the resurrected place is spiritual it is not subject to the laws of nature, for example aging, so it is rational to suggest that they could be eternal as the bodies are no longer in a physical world. Swinburne provides further evidence to support the evidence of the bible as in his book 'The existence of God' he formulates the 'principle of credulity' which argues that any experience should be trusted as
According to the Bible, there is life after death. When people die, the body becomes separated from the spirit and the soul. It is the body that remains on earth while the spirit goes back to God (John 11:25). Here, depending on your deeds on earth, the spirit may be accepted into Gods kingdom (heaven) or it may be subjected to punishment through hellfire (Matthew 10:28). (625 words)
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is one of the topics in Christianity whose factuality is most highly debated. A point for people who advocate for atheism is usually the preposterousness of a man dying and coming back to life. However, the resurrection, if proven true, is one of the most powerful points for the truth of Christianity as a whole. Whether or not the legend is true boils down to two things to prove: that Jesus actually died, and if he could have later been spotted after death. Just a few arguments against the truth behind the resurrection include the swoon theory, the faking death theory, the hallucination theory among others. We can debunk all these theories, as well as provide additional
He also claims the mind will tell us if the true world after our death, but again this does not explain the soul as anything beyond supernatural.
There is survival after death where the death becomes parts of the soul and the body.
Many people believe that there is a possibility of life after death. Others would say that there is no such thing, that we just decompose and become energy so the earth can breath. Then there are some that will say, that there is only one of two places an individual can go and that is to heaven or to hell. None really considering that there might be yet another possibility, that reincarnation is a possible answer. It has also some scientific evidence and hundreds of cases around the world, showing that it is indeed a very strong possibility that the human soul can be reborn to start over again.
god says: even so, is the revival, for, god brings to life the dead, and he shows you his signs, the proofs of his power, so that you might understand, [that you might] reflect and realise that the one capable of reviving a single soul is also capable of reviving a multitude of souls, and then believe}.
Death, resurrection and the afterlife have always been a topic of debate. The resurrection of the body itself has been an even more discussed topic. In NT Wrights youtube video, “Death, Resurrection, and the Afterlife” he discusses this very subject. He says that this question is rarely mentioned in the Old Testament. In the New Testament this topic does arise more often, but does not show a great significance. However, he answers these questions. What is the importance of life after death during the time that Jesus lived? What are the teachings found in the New Testament that relate to the resurrection of Jesus,? Why are the theological teachings of the resurrection necessary and what is the portrayal that they Bible illustrates of a believer's death? Also, how will the resurrection effect the earth and how do the teachings in the Bible about death, resurrection and the afterlife differ from what most Christians believe today. NT Wright begins his video with his explanation of Life After Death.
belief that a person will be born again following the death is linked with the
However, there are rumors, stories, and myths of people returning from the dead proclaiming to have witnessed God or other phenomenons. Yet, none of the accusations has been scientifically proven or with proper documentation, therefore, not being able to properly associate the truth with a specific religious organization beliefs on death and afterlife. Because no one really knows what to expect or hear from an individual who claims he or she returned from the dead. Therefore, it will be quite difficult to explain his or her experience of the afterlife. Nevertheless, many researchers have spent several years trying to clarify and identify the meaning of afterlife. Many faiths have definitive teachings about death and afterlife, however the question still remains and unanswered for many people within their respected religious organizations and that is "What happens after we die?" The only time this question seems to be answered supposedly is when one dies besides that the belief of afterlife remains a mystery.
Subsequent to death, a person’s soul is judged by God. It is a common concept that heaven is an ethereal destination, and hell is polarised as an eternal state of pandemonium. The Roman Catholic Church disparately promote purgatory as supplementary state of being where those who carry sin but are repentant dwell. It is a described as a manner of ablution before entering heaven. Additionally, in contrast to reincarnation, the majority of Christians’ believe in the resurrection. Christian Apologetics explains that “the Judeo-Christian notion of resurrection is a transformation of the body into an immortal form of existence, but there is a relationship between the physical body that dies and the body that is physically raised to immortality. The body that dies is the exact body that is raised, yet it is transformed by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8).” In order to have this experience and ultimately touch heaven, a person should follow the ensuing steps. According to a Roman Catholic expert (Appendix A), a person must first be informed, and know the mission God has called them to as a disciple (Matthew 28:19). A Baptist (Appendix C) explained that a person must hear that Jesus is offering a new life in exchange for the old one, and be willing to receive Him as the rightful King and Saviour of one’s life. In the Catholic Church, however, one must then complete
a person can return after death as an animal too. However, one can avoid rebirth
To Christians, death is a transit from earthly life to God. Many of them think of the soul as an immortal entity within us that goes on living after death. Christians think that by dying, it corrupts the body, but the soul survives (Cummins, 1991). There are straightforwardly dualistic conceptions for Christians (i.e. a non-physical soul that separates from the body at death), but there are also contrasting views (Woodhead, 2004). For instance, many believe that a spiritual body (which may be three-dimensional and physical) is resurrected after death (but that the spiritual body is distinct from our current physical bodies). Many Christians continue to believe in a literal resurrection of our earthly bodies (Woodhead, 2004). The most generally accepted view is that the resurrected person or the soul is destined for Heaven, a place of spiritual peace and union with God, or Hell, a place of everlasting torment.
Physical bodies cannot be resurrected by God because they cannot possess the kingdom of God.
Life after death is a concept that has been around for many centuries. Many philosophers came to the idea that there had to be something after our life ends. For some, they believe in the afterlife. Another concept is that of reincarnation. Reincarnation is the believe that once the physical body dies, the soul is then reborn as a different being. Some religious teachings are actually said to have skewed some of the details about reincarnation.
It is believed that resurrection does not happen all at one time. Instead, it happens many more times as part of a process for mending the world. This is not necessarily the belief of all people in the religion. Like other ideas, there are even differences in beliefs of reincarnation itself. Some say that it would likely happen to anyone on a routine basis and all that you would need to do is live a good life. In other cases, it seems like the beginning of a modern ghost story. It’s believed that reincarnation would only take place if the soul had some sort of unfinished business to attend to. I am not sure what sort of unfinished business that these souls would have. My only idea, would be some sort of closure needed from a living loved one. Another reason that I do not believe in reincarnation is that animals would act very different if they were being possessed by the souls of those that have already passed away. Plants would not be likely recipients of reincarnated souls in my opinion, especially if they are only being reincarnated for unfinished
