How does the result of one war lead to another? In 1918 WWI come to an end, the allies taking the roll of victors. 17 million people killed, civilians included and 10 million injured. After the war came to an end, leaders of the world came together to create the Treaty of Versailles in hope to avoid yet another war. Little did they know it would be the cause of the next. How did the Treaty of Versailles cause World War II? Reparations, loss of territory, reduction of military, war guilt, all consequences of the Treaty of Versailles, all which Germany had to pay for. One way the Treaty of Versailles helped cause World War II was the territory Germany lost. Germany lost land to Poland and France, 2 of Germany’s most hated countries. The lost of land to the most hated countries of …show more content…
With the Treaty of Versailles Germany owed 367 billion over the next 30 years for damage and civilian population. Germany was humiliated and angry, they paid very little in the 1920’s showing resentment of the payments. In 1933 when Hitler comes to power and stops all reparations (Doc c). Hitlers immediate response is to stop all payments breaking the Treaty of Versailles. His immediate response shows how he resented to payments and the other countries control they have over Germany and the humiliation. One other factor in World War II is the war guilt due to the Treaty of Versailles. In the Treaty of Versailles it states “ Germany accepts responsibility… for causing all the loss and damage” (Doc D). Germany was humiliated, not because they caused World War II but because they were called out on it, an “atrocious injustice”. “Hitler restored a sense of pride, rewarded a sense of self respect, forcing the world to look at Germany anew.” Hitler gave Germany a sense of pride the Treaty of Versailles took away, giving Germany a sense of power that they
Though the treaty of versailles created peace and harmony in many nations after the first world war it left Germany to be humiliated and dishonored and to be worthless as a result Germany revolted, plunging the world into a second world war.
The Versailles Treaty was signed by the Allied nations who won the war, Great Britain, France, and the United States, and it was signed by the losing nation, Germany. In the treaty there were many things Germany had to abide by, which didn't seem harsh for the Allies, but in reality it was harsh on Germany. Back to the essential question, how did the Versailles Treaty help cause World War II. The Treaty of Versailles helped cause World War II by treating Germany harshly. This harsh treatment can be seen especially in three areas: the treaty stripped Germany of land, the treaty ordered for Germany to pay tons of money to the Allies, and Germany was stripped of pride and military power.
The Treaty of Versailles was a treaty signed by the winners of WWI meant to punish the aggressors of the war. The treaty opened the door for WWII to develop into an international total war. The Treaty of Versailles made WWII inevitable due to the absurd amount of repercussions Germany had to deal with, the failure of the league of nations, and the expansion of Japan.
There are many things that the Treaty of Versailles help cause World War II. Economic losses, territory loss, overpowered by size, reparation and war guilt were causes that led to World War II. The Treaty of Versailles brought World War I to an end but began World War II.
World War I is a war that took the lives of more than 10 million soldiers and over 7 million civilians, and wounded 10 million more. It was a conflict between the Axis powers, Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Turkey, and the Allies, France, England, Russia, and Italy. After the war ended the leaders met at the Versailles Palace just outside of Paris for a treaty to settle future disputes and avoid war. The treaty was finally signed on June 28, 1919 and because Germany was responsible for war damageous and costs, they were angry and humiliated. The Treaty of Versailles lead to World War II through territorial losses, military restrictions, economic war reparations, and war guilt.
Due to Germany taking back the colonies lost after World War I and forming an alliance with Austria, Germany’s actions against the Treaty of Versailles contributed to the cause of World War II. After Germany got slapped with a $33 Billion dollar war reparation bill and Kaiser Wilhelm was removed from power, Germany was a mess, which allowed the rise of Hitler. Hitler, being a former Iron Cross winning
There were other reasons that the Versailles treaty upset Germany and therefore contributes to World War II. For example, the territorial losses, the economic losses and the war guilt helped cause World War II. However the main underlying cause of the War was the War Guilt. In this the Germans felt humiliated and angry. Adolf Hitler was able to use this anger to to build German pride and strengthen the military. This evidently led to the formation of the Nazi party. The Germans were suffering from the losses the Treaty of Versailles and as a result Adolf Hitler took power which later he would help cause World War
Germany also had been blamed for starting WW1 and this caused Germans to become enraged because they had many consequences from the treaty. Most Germans thought that the Treaty of Versailles is unfair and evil and they found it to be a humiliation. They did accept the responsibility but they did not really have a choice. Hitler was a German politician who disagreed with the Treaty of Versailles and many people were following his ideas and he wanted to fight back with violence. To the people that followed him he restored sense of pride and self-respect. (Document
Another reason for how the Versailles Treaty caused World War II is how it forced Germany to pay an unfair amount of reparations to the other major nations. As said in document C, article 233 of the Treaty, “The Commission shall … draw up a schedule of payments prescribing the time and manner for securing and discharging the entire obligations within a period of thirty years”. Despite Germany having some part in the chaos of WWI, the 132 billion gold marks that Germany had to pay every year was unnecessary, even when that number dropped 20 billion gold marks. This cruel way of compensation was hated by German citizens and when Hitler rose to power, he sought to stop this reparation payment cycle after the second year of paying. Finally, The Versailles Treaty placed the blame of the entire war on Germany.
The Versailles Treaty was a key factor in WWI for many reasons, but it was not all one countries blame either. The Versailles treaty amplified an already tense situation and made germany very un-happy.
World War II was caused by the Treaty of Versailles because Germany had taken the blame for all of the damage after WW1. The name for Germany taking all the blame is War guilt clause.
World War II: 80 million deaths; the largest war in history. And it is widely disputed whether the Treaty of Versailles was to blame. World War I resulted in ten million deaths (which is seemingly incomparable to World War II), but sparked a treaty to prevent further war. The superpowers of the world clashed wills over its content. The Treaty of Versailles was originally meant to liberate Eastern European countries, but in bitterness was Germany relentlessly punished. The Treaty of Versailles was the root cause of World War II through its terms causing Germany’s humiliation, insurmountable reparations, loss of land, and restriction of military.
There were certain circumstances from the ending of World War I that led up to World War II. Such great destruction caused the victorious nations to suffer almost as much as the vanquished nations. In an attempt to bring peace, the Treaty of Versailles actually helped cause a lot of dissatisfaction between some successful nations, as well as most of the defeated nations. The economy of Germany was shaken by what the Treaty of Versailles stated. Germany along with Europe both had difficulties and struggles recovering. The United States had the resources to relieve international tensions, but refused which led to world affairs. The United States, at this time, even refused to join in the League of Nations.
The Treaty of Versailles was a way to bring down Germany, according to France. France would be able to take back its territory due to Wilson’s fourteen points and also copied into document seven. France got back Alsace-Lorraine and was able to work its coal mines. In the aftermath of the war, France
The first cause that started the deadly cycle of World War II was the incredible rage that the Versailles Treaty ignited. Germany was more than likely the angriest over two things. One were the many territorial losses that they had encountered as a result of the treaty. Giving Poland access to the ocean split Germany’s land into two parts, the main part of Germany and a small portion to the North of the Danzig. Another country that was highly angered over the passing of Versailles Treaty was Italy. They were upset because they thought that the land that they were given as a payment for their efforts in the Allied forces fight against Germany did not make up for the cost of the war, nor did it improve their eagerness to grow. The final country that was upset over the ruling of the Versailles Treaty was Japan. They were also a benefactor over Germany and wanted control over China as reward for their contribution to the war. This, however, did not
