Understanding the Key Determinants of Personality

Culture? Some may say culture define you but that's not the case culture is something that makes you unique in your own way. My culture has mostly to do with music mostly tupac shakur and Biggie Smalls. My life has been one long ride and thanks to the culture and lessons it teaches me i can live like a man. The tupac i spoke of he was the most inspirational influence on my life because his music taught me how the world works and how people work within it. Most time culture doesn't define me but soon it probably will.

Lets start by understanding that cultures are a melting pot of people’s beliefs, language, behaviors, values, material objects, and norms. Norms are written and non-written “expectations of behavior” that govern a certain location, place, or culture (26). These norms also vary from culture to culture meaning what is a norm in the U.S may not be a norm in India. For example, a norm in America would be tipping a waiter after a meal. Another would be acknowledging someone as you walk past him or her, typically done at work or in a public place. In all, norms are folkways, mores, taboos, and written laws that are an established standard of one’s behavior.

Culture plays a paramount role in our lives. “It is what shapes who we are and how we view the world” (Thorp & Sanchez, 1998,

“Culture is the intersection of people and life itself. It's how we deal with life, love, death, birth, disappointment... all of that is expressed in culture” once said by the actor Wendell Pierce. (Brainy Quote.com). Each person is shaped rapidly throughout their daily lives from the things and people of their surroundings. There are many things that can help shape someone’s perspective, though culture is a relatively big factor in shaping the way he/she views the world and the people within because it is the platform of which family, opinions, and and people in your everyday life shape your perspective.

Culture is universal and inescapable. Its expressed through different beliefs and ideas. It follows someone through their ethnicity and communities. The cultural impact is inevitable and permanent. Someone’s culture has a significant impact on the way they view the world and others. This influence is communicated through the individual's upbringing, their culture, as well as their current environment. Situations are perceived differently by those with different values. The fairly full extent of one’s cultural impact is clear.

Culture plays an very important part in everyone’s life, it’s what makes unique and interesting individuals.. It has shaped my identity, and without it I wouldn’t be the person I am today.

Introduction No matter what part of the world a person lives in, he or she exists in a culture. Culture is an intricate and beautiful part of society, as every culture differs greatly. Although each culture is different, the core of all cultures are the same. Culture is defined as, “The sum of the material and nonmaterial components underlying the social environment” (cite textbook). Culture can be broken down into parts; these parts include material and nonmaterial aspects of culture, cultural norms, and social issues.

Culture is the definition of a person, like the prologue to your favorite story. The not so scientific DNA that makes you, you. The influences and people that shape your behavior, and change your characteristics. It is the environment in which you are surrounded by. The reasons behind your peculiarity. Your culture is the most important thing, your culture is you. My culture is the constant of support that my family gives me, even if I do screw up sometimes. My culture is pureness of the love that I receive, and knowing how genuine it really is. My culture is the reliability of my friends, and the constant reassurance that they have my back. I am extremely family oriented and this allows me to succeed in tackling my dreams, one at a time.

In the article “Our Personality- Is it Genetically Inherited or Determined by The Environmental Factors” written by Alexandra Lupu, she demonstrates three possible process that is done to form one’s personality and argues that she believes individual’s personality is formed uniquely with environment inheritage interacting with each other. After stating her argument, Lupu explains the three types of approaches that divides the psychologist that determines one’s personality. First, nomothetic approaches, which is believed that one’s personality is constant and it is minimally influenced by external factors. Second, Idiographic approaches, which is similar to Lupu’s argument that both factors takes a big role in personality and finally, the complementary

While psychology theorists vary greatly on their theories of personality, they all concur that numerous elements go into the creation and development of personality. The elements used in the creation and development of personality are: nature versus nature, the unconscious, view of self, development, motivation and maturation. Each of these elements contributes to the understanding of personality theory. To better understand the connection of these elements and the formation of personality theory researchers have conducted cases studies, surveys, and laboratory observations in order to observe the relationship between these elements and personality. There are many potential factors that involve the shaping of an individual’s personality. Environment, genetics, and culture has an influence on an individual’s personality. Also, a person values, beliefs, and expectations have a part in a person’s personality development. Social and biological maturation can play different roles in personality and learning development as well.

The fourth letter represents how I prefer to organize your life. The way in which I prefer to organize my life is Judging. When I saw the word judging I was for sure this was inaccurate because I associated that with judging people. I never judge people and this word really made me feel insulted and uncomfortable.
