I used to tell my friends and teachers that I wanted to explore the medical field because that was what my family wanted me to do. They wanted me to become a doctor as it is a well praised profession that pays extremely well. As I grew older and entered middle school, I realized that becoming a doctor wasn’t something I was immensely interested in. Instead of a doctor, I wanted to become a veterinarian, treating animals instead of people. I’ve become aware of my passion for animals ever since I began having pets: from fish to hamsters to dogs. The career that I want to achieve is a Veterinarian. I want to become a Veterinarian after I graduate college. The work environment in Vet Tech is stressful. In a Vet clinic, illnesses and injuries are more common in Vet Tech. One has to be able to handle being kicked, bitten, scratched, etc when holding, cleaning, or restraining an animal. Try to avoid getting injuries while working in a Vet. Watch for body language in an animal and have proper restraint techniques. To avoid illnesses, the Vet Tech should follow safety procedures. Illnesses can be caused by these things since they would be around them most of the time; Needles, bodily fluids, radiation and other potentially hazardous substances. (“How to Become a Vet Tech”).

Vet Ranch is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless animals with medical conditions not only get better, but to find loving forever homes. They do most of their work on their Youtube channel - Vet Ranch. The Youtube channel was started in 2014 by Dr. Matt Carriker after posting a video of the progress of a dog that was hit and left by a car. Dr. Matt is a vet in San Antonio, Texas who created the website to make it easier for viewers that wanted to donate to help save animals. Although it started out with just Dr. Matt, Vet Ranch is now made up of four amazing veterinarians that include, Dr. Karri. Dr. Wendy, and Dr. Dave who help save animals lives. I chose the career of a Vet Technician. This job is often confused with the veterinarian or veterinary technologist. These two fields are totally different than a vet technician. Veterinarian required eight years of schooling, where the Veterinary technologist requires a bachelor degree in applied science. The job of an veterinary technician is to provide nursing care and assist surgeries for animals. Think of it as a human nurse, and a doctor, the vet tech assist the veterinarian in diagnosing illness and injuries. UW Fond Du Lac, I feel, is the best school for me. I want to go into animal services which enables me to help the one thing that I have loved all my life. Being in this profession I will be able to continue doing what I love and that's protecting those animals who don't have a voice or get the chance to live a life full of love and happiness.

The baying of dogs echoed throughout the building; the caterwauls of cats, the calls of birds, and the occasional soothing words spoken to the unnerved animals followed them. The veterinarian walked into the office and met with his aide. The injured animal had already been given anaesthesia, x-rays of its bones had been taken, and the tools that the veterinarian would need were set for operation. This is the job of a veterinary technician; the career of a vet tech is one that many people pursue from the moment they hear of it, and those like myself are determined to work hard to get to it. Those who already work in the field could tell you a waterfall of reasons why being a vet tech is admirable, but here are three of my own; one reason is because of the enjoyment it can bring, the second is because of what vet techs do, and the third is because of the payment. Being a Veterinarian isn’t just about the money you earn, it is about helping animals. So why we treat animals badly while helping them astounds me. Ever since I was little the career that has sparked my interest and I want to pursue is veterinary. My father who loves animals has influenced me to be a veterinarian. We have always been close and he has inspired me to go higher in life. My one goal in life is to get my masters degree of veterinary medicine and have my own pet clinic. The university I want to attend and have gotten information about is UC Davis. UC Davis is known for having great majors and one of them is veterinary medicine.
