The world today consists of children roaming the streets, technology taking over the world, and being able to work wherever you'd like but, could you imagine a life without all these things? Believe it or not there was a time in life where these things were very uncommon to see. This would be known as the victorian era. This time period was between 1837 and 1901. Daily life was very different from now. Health, social classes, and fashion are just three examples of how daily life was different in the victorian era.

During the victorian era only the aristocracy class could afford treatments. According to the book, victorian era ,written by clarice swisher, 90% of treatments consisted of keeping the patients comfortable and letting nature take their course. People were also recommended to stay clean, have lots of rest, and eat lots of nourishing foods. During the 19th century, wine, narcotic drugs and traditional herbal preparations were used to promote sleep in order to relieve coughs, muscle cramps, nausea, and other symptoms. Many diseases were treated by purging, bloodletting and dosing people with dangerous drugs which ended up causing more harm than good. Have you ever wonder what medical advancements were made in the Victorian era? These advancements took place in 1837-1901. These advancements changed medicine for the better. Without these breakthroughs medicine would not be where it is today. The medical advancements in England during the Victorian era helped change the status of medicine for the better, in areas like surgeries, hospitals, and diseases.
The Victorian Era was a time of peace and prosperity. During the Victorian Era the society was divided into various social classes like the working class, middle class. Upper class, Dickens/Victorians. Above all those classes the middle class was the most hard working class with all the various occupations but also they also had quite relaxing life also speaking of which let's get into the middle class.

Life in the Victorian Era was very difficult, especially after the Industrial Revolution. In Britain, the Industrial Revolution began in the late 1700. The revolution brought a lot of positive things, for example, it improved transportation, communication, and banking, and made a big change to special powered machinery, factors, mass production, and steam engines. There were also, negative factors, like grim employment and living conditions for the lower and working class. The great deposits of coal and iron ore was essential to the Industrial Revolution. Britain was a politically stable society and the world's leading colonial power, it was a source for raw materials and a marketplace for manufactured goods. It raised a standard of living in the upper and middle class, and replaced craftspeople with machines.

Various social classes represented the population of England, comprising of the upper class, the middle class, the working class and the under class. Social order and proper etiquette was the norm for most Victorians, particularly in the upper class society. Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel, “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” and Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s poem, “Ulysses” illustrates the dominant characteristics of the Victorians, specifically addressing social manners, money and power, and priorities and goals.

On one hand it is considered as an era of power and paradox while on the other hand this era also describes Victorians as confident, socially responsible people having a vision of the world beyond. The problem of describing Victorianism has also been well addressed by M.H. Abrams in arts and literature, who himself was a Victorian.
