The Americans struggled a lot go gain their independence from their mother country England. They felt like they were still under England’s control even though they were in America. They believed that if they were in America they could establish things that they wanted which was to create their own type of government. They didn’t wish to be in control of England anymore which resulted in two wars. These wars were the American revolution and the War of 1812 in which the Americans were victorious.

Britain was imposing on the United States trade while they were left at their weakest point. Along the way, Britain was also capturing United States sailors to join their army, resulting in fighting against their own people in the American Indian battles. This is when Madison really messed up and declared the war proclamation toward Britain. Multiple people wanted nothing to Madison’s decision and failed to support it. While trying to keep up with the war, America kept aiming to fight Britain. Although the Unites States often were forced to admit defeat, they were holding up as well as they could. The historical period between 1800 and 1812 was quite chaotic as it was a time of tension and war. After Jefferson's reelection in 1804, he was faced with overwhelming difficulties. The War of 1812 was a war fought between the United States, United Kingdom and all of their allies which lasted roughly three years. It is considered to be “the second war for independence” and has had a large impact on how the United States has grown as a nation. There were many reasons for the start of the War of 1812. For instance, when the Revolutionary war ended and the Treaty of Paris was signed, the United States was promised western forts and Great Britain violated the treaty terms by refusing to give up the land. Great Britain was supplying guns and ammo and other arms to the Native Americans who were using this advantage against the United States.

The War of 1812 was declared by congress on June 18, 1812. The war ended December 24, 1814 with the signing of the Treaty of Ghent, but was not ratified until February 17, 1815 in the United States. The vote for declaration of war was close, with a 19 to 13 in Senate and 79 to 49 in the House. After gaining independence from Great Britain, the US declared its first war just after 30 years. Dubbed the War of 1812, the US went against the greatest naval power in the world; Great Britain. The US declaring war against Great Britain took a series of events before congress sign the bill. There were three main events that led to the War of 1812, the Napoleonic Era, Orders in Council, and Chesapeake-Leopard Affair.

The War of 1812 is regarded by many historians as a second revolutionary war for the United States. Fought between England and the new America, it became a symbol of the United States being able to preserve its sovereignty. The Jeffersonians pushed for war after having their free trade and liberty encroached upon because of the policies of impressment and the Orders-in-Council. Historians disagree on the origins of the war, but this paper will attempt to answer that question by weighing the opinions of two historians. Reginald Horsman believes that had there been no Napoleonic wars, England would not have needed sailors and a replenished economy; nor would it have put in place the policies that forced the Americans to war.

War of 1812 History reveals that the War of 1812 was a controversy between two great nations of the 19th century, Britain and the United States of America. The Americans were pushed by several reasons to go for war including their need and anticipation of expanding their territory and having full control of North America. It is very clear that the Americans became opportunitistic when the War of 1812 presented and therefore they embraced it as a means of defending their liberty, freedom and international reputation that they had once created. The United States was a new power and was attempting greater control over the American territories. While Great Britain was in a fight with France and in an effort to stop trading that was going to the enemy, both France and Great Britain attempted to block U.S trade with each of the other countries. With the Embargo Act and the Non-Intercourse Act both being unsuccessful and economically damaging for the U.S, the United States agreed that if either France or Great Britain removes restrictions for trade that the U.S would terminate trade with the other country. France was first to remove the blockade on the United States, so in turn President James Madison prevented exchange with Great Britain as per the agreement.

In 1812, The U.S. declared war on Great Britain. However, was this war really a necessary war? I believe this war was not necessary for three reasons. The first reason the war was not necessary was because the British did not want war with the U.S.. The British were already in a war with France and this wasn't a fair war for them.The second reason the war of 1812 wasn't justifiable was because the British were even willing to stop interfering with American Wars so the war wouldnt start. They sent a message to America saying they would stop interfering with American shipping, but sadly it arrived after the declaration of war. Due to the wealth the US was making from this neutral trading, England decided to curb American profits, in fear the US would become economically independent.
