I am pursuing a Medical Assistant Associate in Applied Science degree. I choose this major because the field of work I want to be in is more hands on. I want to be in the action, where I can be doing multiple things and always be on the move. My career goals are to graduate from Berkeley College, move on to my internship, then choose a facility to work at. As I am working as a medical assistant (MA), I would like to continue my career and go back to school, and become a registered nurse (RN). Starting high school can be a little scary, especially when you have no guidance from siblings, like me, being the first one from my family to have an education. But that did not stop me from succeeding, I?ve always been confident and determined. I?m an enthusiastic when it comes to trying new things. Who would have thought I was going to be a good athlete plus a book geek, when in my past years I was just a regular kid. I was pretty excited about joining a club that had a connection with high school, that way I didn?t have to start from zero, I always want to be a step ahead. Fortunately, in summer, a high school coach was recruiting freshmen for running either cross country or track, they both involve running, so I considered it like the same sport with different timing. Ever since I was little I have aspired to be something great in life, a chef, a pro. soccer player, and an artist. I still hold on to those dreams in hopes they will come true. All of these dreams shape who I am today. I play soccer for “Charlotte Soccer Academy” and previously for the “Waddell Soccer Team”. Both have kept me being a team player and a stronger leader. I go to visual arts camp over the summer and try to use creativity at any moment possible. I love making cupcakes and baking which also allow me to be creative. I have finally realized that all of these dreams originated from my family. I pursued soccer, like my parents did throughout their lives. I continue drawing, like my mother and father did until it became their life and jobs. I am still love making cakes and cupcakes every weekend, just like how i've seen my grandmother make them. Life has a very strange and mind-boggling way of turning out. I know that sounds cheesy, but it is really true.

Some long term goals I have for myself is to achieve my Master's Degree in Nursing. In the mean time I want to work as a nurse and use my skills and learn as much as I can on the job and to gain experience in the nursing world

Once I receive my diploma, I would like to attend nursing school to get an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) License and advance from there to a RN (Registered Nurse). I also inspire to complete cosmetology school and or study sign language. I would like to follow in my sister's footsteps. She inspires me to become a nurse. She is a single parent of three children who started out by getting her LPN. Now she is an RN and works at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in the emergency department. She made it with a close family support system. I feel the key to my success will be the same family support system. They continue to assist and challenge me even now. There are many directions I could study my cultural history. I could search for so many answers to questions about my family. Are we descendents of Chinese people? Were we a powerful family in Vietnam? Are we related to any royalty? I could not decide how far back I wanted to explore my family tree or if I wanted to research my mother’s family or my father’s family. I was not even sure if I could find any answers at all. All of these questions are relevant if I wish to discover the people in my family line. However, none of these explain what makes me who I am today.

My name is Abie Pessima. I am a student at Wilkes University studying business management and will also like to minor in business administration. My educational aspiration consists of achieving a bachelor’s degree in any management that will assist me into pursing my career of being manager. On that note, my career vision is to one day be a chief executive officer of a hospital being able to serve as a moral leader and complete missions for the everyday community and people of the hospital. However, I am certain if I do not complete my college degree I will not be able to achieve my career goals.

I can still remember vividly the day my mother passed away. My mother passed away at a critical point in my life when I was seventeen years old from a short term illness. She was sick for a week and I remember thinking this could be serious, however, my mother declined to go to the hospital because of the distance and financial hardship. I had loss my father when I was three years old, so my mother was a single mother. I have step sisters and brother, but I was not particularly close to them. Losing my mother was a defining moment in my life for it changed my life irrevocably. I was devastated, but I had to become strong, proactive and it spurred me to choose a new career path.

Who am I? That’s hard to say since there is no clear definition of what makes a person. I could be my occupations: a student, dancer, and swimmer. Maybe I’m my emotions like happy, sad, and angry. I could be where I live, or what my goals are and how I plan to reach them. Most likely, I’m a compilation of all of these because people are complex and are not two dimensionally made. Where I am, how I act, and what I do make me who I am and I would not be Veronica without living in this house in Portland, Texas and having aspirations that seem to be more impossible than seizing the moon. I am Veronica, but I can also be whatever I need to be depending on where I live, what I do, and how I change my goals.

The question “who am I”? Can have a lot of individuals thinking about themselves, including myself because one might not know where to start. It is a very broad question, but having done the Strengths Finder 2.0 assessment, I realized more in depth what kind of person I really am based on my top 5 strengths. Who I am as a learner, who I am in my career and who I am as a person of faith lead me to answering the question above and understanding more of myself within.

A person’s life is a journey filled with bumps, detours and dead-ends while the route is shaped by the people, places and experiences that litter the path. It does not matter if a person graces your life for a moment or for a lifetime, each one helps guide our destination by helping define who we are and who we will become. These relationships bring us the many tools that we will need along the way. My parents and friends have given me great roadside assistance by teaching many ethical principles. Because of them, honesty and acceptance are two core values of mine that will be tremendous assets in a future business career.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said “To be yourself in a world that is trying to make you something else is a great accomplishment”. Who am I? is question that many often struggle to answer, but for me it allows me to differentiate from my constituents and express who I really am. What makes me such a unique individual is my ability to identify with 5 strong strengths. I love the fact that I am futuristic and I have the ability to relate, I am responsible, I am a developer and last but not least I am disciplined. As I take a look back on my life, I realize how great it has truly been. I had an absolutely amazing childhood and I am beyond blessed for it. I grew up in a home with two loving parents that have been with me through it all and now of days that is something to be truly thankful for. My parents taught me to strive to be anything that I wanted and that I could be anything that I set my mind to. These dreams changed throughout my life as I grew older and as I grew into the person that I am today.
