It can affect your health, mood, and your performance. Lack of sleep can affect your health in many ways. One being, physical. When you are sleep deprived it is very dangerous for you to drive or walk or anything. I wake up in the morning to my noisy alarm. I 'm so tired I don 't want to get up so I say to myself I 'll get up in a few minutes. But then I fall asleep and the next time I wake up I realized I missed the bus! Does this happen to you? Because of early school starts I have to wake up super early which makes me super tired. When walking through school hallways full of kids on a typical school morning, one may see sleep deprived and tired students not looking forward to their early morning classes, waiting for the bell to ring to signal them to go to class. Do you feel like you do not get enough sleep or feel like you can not make it through the school day? For years kids like you complain about having to wake up early to go to school, but for many years they have studied and found out that later school starting times can benefit kids. It has been proven that kids who get at least nine hours of sleep perform better than those who get less that nine hours. As a high school student I do not get enough sleep through the night due to all of the homework and studying I have to do for the next day. I usually go to bed around 11:30 and have to get up at 7:00 in order to get to school on time. To begin, Ben Franklin once said, “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” So as long as we sleep earlier, then there will be no need to start schools later, right? Wrong. According to Newsweek, kids our age are biologically programmed to fall asleep at 11. Waking up for school around 6 in the morning, this leaves us with a mere 7 hours of sleep, as opposed to the 9 hours we need. It’s no wonder that even those students who drink gallons of coffee every morning are still exhausted during class.

Teenagers mood can change by not getting enough sleep and causes anxiety, depression, stress, poor grades. “The moodiness, the constant battles, the sleeping all day, the reckless, impulsive and careless behavior”(Garey pg.1). The less sleep teenagers get can affect their academic work. Students is unable to focus and what is being taught in first period and have their mind drift off and longs for sleep. Less sleep can make it hard to get along with family, friends, and teachers and hurts your grade.

I find it beyond doubt almost impossible to stay awake if I wake up before 8 o’clock am. Teenagers are waking up way too early to be able to participant 100% in school. Teens need around nine hours of unbroken sleep every night, but most teens only get seven hours if they are lucky on school nights. This means that teenagers in the high school level are not getting enough sleep to be able to learn well.
