Why We Should Have School All Year Round Essay

Three reasons I am against year-round school. I wouldn't have a summer break, we have to attend summer school, and we only get three weeks off. I am against this year-round school because we wouldn't get to enjoy our self. more often like we do now.

Year round schooling should be a thing. The time we leave school and go back to school is crazy now we get about a month off and when we leave we forget everything we have learned the past year. Its preposterous and repetitive, why forget everything we learned and struggle to relearn it when we could just stay in school. Most kids are against it because they don't want to lose their summer vacation but when it comes down to it, you'd get more time off and more breaks if you had year round schooling anyway.

Did you know many schools attend year round school? In my opinion I think that we shouldn’t have year round school. For instance, if you have a long distance family member, and you ant to visit them, how would you be able to do that? Also how are you going to go on vacation and spend more than a weekend there? You wouldn’t unless your parents were off and they took you out of school.

Student would be able to socialize with their friends a lot also. This socialization is necessary for the social development of the child. School should be year round because some students love being around there favorites teachers. They learn so much from this rich environment that is not written in the textbooks. If school should be year round, students will like school more than playing video games. Parents will enjoy this because they will have time to get things done while there students are at school having fun with their teacher and friends. There are many reasons why there should and shouldn’t be year round schooling. Like the benefits for elementary students. Also about the minority students and ESL. And middle and high school students need time to just be kids.

Think about what it is like to not have a summer. One could not do fun summer camps, go on once in a life time summer vacations, or get a fun summer job. If year-round schools were put into place everywhere, one would only have a thirty-day summer, or less, instead of a three- month summer. They would be hitting the books at school instead of lying out at the pool and relaxing from all the stress that year of school brought. Jill Parker, who is apart of a group in North Carolina called Time to Learn are against year round schools. This group argues against year round education, and they say- “Studies done so far don’t have the longitude to merit serious discussion.” They are saying that schools don’t take all the facts into consideration. Summer is when many people travel and go see relatives, but with students in school all year, it takes away that opportunity. Also, in lots of farm communities, the kids work on their family’s farm. Those people’s farms might possibly be their only source of income, but if the kids are at home, they can’t help out. In the summers, especially, farms need the kids to help out. Some school districts don’t think of that. Not only are the students getting family time taken away, but the teachers have families too. Teachers have to stay longer, and often live in another town than students too, so that takes even more time away. There are so many students and teachers who do not have time to do the things they want to do. All Schools should be year round because it could help the students academically. Also they won't forget what the learned.But also it lets them have more separate breaks then just one big pointless break. Statistics show that if you have one big long summer break you forget what you have learned. Because kids show up to school on the first day and forget what they have learned the previous year. So if those kids had school all year they could’ve had a better memory of what they are learning.

School’s Should switch to the year round schedule because it will benefit both teachers and students. This schedule would help students avoid what many call the dreaded brain drain, since there are more frequent short breaks, we will not forget everything from the previous school year and will not have to review previous lessons during the first month of school. Students will feel more prepared after these short breaks because we will have more time to study and catch up on things that we might have missed out on or just didn’t understand. Teachers will be able to catch up on grading papers that they have fallen behind on and can prepare for the next grading period.

Having year round school would be beneficial educationally, but personally as a student I believe it’s not a good idea. Kids love having a big break off school to have the opportunity to go places. I usually travel in the summer and if I only had 3-4 weeks it wouldn’t work out. Last summer I went to Texas and I wouldn’t have been able to do most of the activities I did because they only had them on certain days. Also 5 summers ago my family and I flew out to Germany. We spent two weeks there, but we didn’t go as soon as summer started so if the break wasn’t as long as it is we wouldn’t have had the chance to fly there.

Year-round school is not a good idea. For one, the cost of essential items in school will rise. Also, it gives parents less time for “family time” because their children are too busy doing homework. For kids, homework and projects present them with too much stress. Without year-round schools, it would benefit the school, the parents, and the children.

Do you believe that school should be year-round? Many school board members are thinking about changing how long kids attend school. School board officials believe students need to be there year-round to obtain information. Students lose too much information over the summer, it is hard on parents to pay for daycare and crime rate increases during summer months.

Do you want year round school? Just keep open minded if you said no I will turn it into a yes because there is many advantages to it. Year round school will lower class sizes, often breaks from school. The positives out weigh the negatives. It is said that we will have shorter summers. That is false we will not have summer break, but there still will only be 180 days of school. We will also have breaks very often. It has a 45, 15 system were where we have school for 45 school days, and then break for 15 school days. Teachers also get the 45, 15 system too. Year around school will effect students in a negative way. Only 21% of student are supporting year round school. Class sizes are reduced

Kids should attend all year around school because, over long breaks at a traditional school kids could could forget what they learned. With all things considered, “research indicates that summer learning loss is a real problem for students- especially for economically disadvantaged students. One study, found that low income students made similar achievements gains to other students during the school year; the widening of the achievements gap between the two groups occurred over the summer”. Advocates for both often described the traditional school year as outdated, based on an agrarian calendar, and not suited to modern society needs or structure.”
