David Masson (1822–1907)

Masson, David. A Scottish biographer, essayist, and critic; born at Aberdeen, Dec. 2, 1822; died on Oct. 6, 1907. He was professor of rhetoric and English literature at the University of Edinburgh. His chief work is: ‘Life of Milton’ (6 vols., 1858–79). He wrote besides: ‘Essays, Biographical and Critical’ (1856); ‘British Novelists’ (1859); ‘The Three Devils’ (1874); etc.
