Francisco Gomes de Amorim (1827–1891)

Gomes de Amorim, Francisco (gō’mes de ä-mö-rēn’). A Portuguese poet and romance-writer; born in Avelomar, Minho, Aug. 13, 1827, died at Lisbon (?), Nov. 4, 1891, not 1892. He has a European reputation as being in the first rank of modern Portuguese poets. ‘Morning Songs’ and ‘Ephemeros’ are the most celebrated of his poems. He also wrote plays and romances; among the latter, ‘Love of Country’ may be mentioned.
