Ion of Chios (c. 490–c. 422 B.C.)

Ion of Chios (ī’on ov kī’os). A Greek poet and prose-writer; born in Chios about 490 B.C.; died at Athens about 422. Fragments only of his works have descended to us. He distinguished himself by his tragedies, hymns, elegies, and epigrams. He was a friend of Sophocles.
