Jan van Droogenbroeck (1835–1902)

van Droogenbroeck, Jan (drō’gen-brök). A Flemish poet; born in St. Amand-on-Scheldt, Jan. 18, 1835; died in 1902. He issued his first verse collection, ‘Ghazels and Makames’ (Arabian terms for stanzas and songs) in 1866, under the pseudonym of “Jan Fergunt”; his subsequent volumes, on Camões and other important subjects, fully sustaining his reputation.
