Johann Christian Bähr (1798–1872)

Bähr, Johann Christian (bãr). A distinguished German philologist; born at Darmstadt, June 13, 1798; died at Heidelberg, Nov. 29, 1872. He was professor of classical literature at the University of Heidelberg. Besides editing several of Plutarch’s ‘Lives,’ making a Latin translation of Herodotus, with notes, his principal work was ‘History of Roman Literature’ (2 vols., 1828).
