John Keble (1792–1866)

Keble, John. A famous English religious poet; born at Fairford, Gloucestershire, 1792; died at Bournemouth, Hampshire, 1866. A clergyman of the English Church, he repeatedly refused rich livings from a sense of duty. Of his great work ‘The Christian Year’ (2 vols., 1827), which he published anonymously, over 500,000 copies have been sold, and from its profits the author built one of the most beautiful parish churches in England. (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
