John Samuel Bewley Monsell (1811–1875)

Monsell, John Samuel Bewley. An English divine and hymn-writer; born at St. Columb’s, Derry, Ireland, March 2, 1811; died on April 9, 1875, at Guildford, England, his final church living. Among his popular publications of devotional poetry were: ‘Parish Musings’ (7th ed. 1863); ‘Hymns of Love and Praise’ (2d. ed. 1866); ‘The Passing Bell, and Other Poems’ (2d ed. 1869); ‘Simon the Cyrenian, and Other Poems’ (new ed. 1876); ‘Spiritual Songs’ (6th ed. 1887).
