Jorge Isaacs (1837–1895)

Isaacs, Jorge (ē’säks or ī’zaks). A South American novelist and poet; born in 1837, in Cali, Colombia; died in 1895. His extraction is partly English-Jewish and partly Spanish. ‘María,’ a novel, is his masterpiece, but he wrote meritorious verse. (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
