Josef Jiri Kolár (1812–1896)

Kolár, Josef Jiri (kō’lär). A Czech novelist and dramatist born at Prague, Feb. 9, 1812; died in 1896. Several of his dramas have been successful; for instance, ‘Monika’ (1847); ‘Ziska’s Death’ (1850); ‘Smirick’ (1881); ‘Primator’ (1883). He also made excellent translations from the dramatic works of Shakespeare, Goethe, Schiller, etc., and written novels.
