Katharine Sherwood Bonner McDowell (1849–1883)

McDowell, Katharine Sherwood. An American poet; born in Holly Springs, MS, Feb. 26, 1849; died there, July 22, 1883. In 1872 she became private secretary to Longfellow. She wrote: ‘The Radical Club,’ a poem; ‘Suwanee River Tales’; ‘Like Unto Like’ (1881); and ‘Dialect Tales’ (1884).
