Luigi Palma di Cesnola (1832–1904)
Cesnola, Luigi Palma di, Count (ches-nō’lä). A noted Italian-American archæologist; born at Rivarola, near Turin, July 29, 1832; died in Nov. 1904. Appointed United States consul at Cyprus, he discovered a large number of antiquities there; the collection is now in the Metropolitan Museum, New York, of which he was director. He wrote: ‘Cyprus, its Ancient Cities, Tombs and Temples’ (1877); ‘The Metropolitan Museum of Art’ (1882).
