Clarke, McDonald. An American poet; born in Bath, ME, June 18, 1798; died in New York, March 5, 1842. He was an eccentric character, familiarly known as “the mad poet”; and was the subject of an amusing poem by Halleck, called ‘The Discarded.’ The subjects of Clarke’s verses were usually the belles of the city and topics of the day.
