Philipp Felix Kanitz (1829–1904)

Kanitz, Philipp Felix (kä’nits). A Hungarian explorer and writer on ethnography and archæology; born at Budapest, Aug. 2, 1829; died on Jan. 5, 1904. His series of works on Serbia, Bulgaria, Herzegovina, Montenegro, etc., beginning in 1862, have spread a knowledge of Slavic countries. He was the first to draw correct maps of Bulgaria and the Balkans.
