Please add more information to one of my questions answered.
1) What would be the most appropriate data collection technique(s) to use for this study? Why?
The most appropriate data collection technique for this research study is the primary research using the survey technique. The survey
would be conducted where the travellers would be provided with the questionnaires while they visit the Maldives. With that, they could
also ask businesses in the area to fill these out. They could conduct focus groups in the Maldives when individuals are there. With that,
there would have to be incentives, but it could be worth trying out. The survey option is the best technique because it is the simplest, and
perhaps the quickest way to get information and reach a large amount of people, quickly.
2) Do you foresee any difficulties in conducting focus group discussions with Chinese travellers travelling to the Maldives? If yes, please
discuss what these difficulties might be.
One difficulty I did not think about could be a language barrier. It would not be easy to translate during a focus group. With that, there are
cultural differences.
3) Design a preliminary semi-structured interview schedule in order to investigate this topic.
1. The interview could take place in the hotel where these travelers are staying.
2. The interview could also been done where the purchases are being made.
4) Design a preliminary questionnaire in order to investigate this topic.
1. What is your name?
2. Where are you from?
3. How old are you?
4. What brings you to the Maldives?
5. Why do you travel here?
6. Do you enjoy the shops in the Maldives?
7. What do you like to purchase while visiting?
8. Where is the best spot to shop?

Case 6: Ahmad investigating the image of the Maldives as a destination among Chinese tourists
Ahmad, a PhD student from the Maldives, is interested in finding out why there is a growing popularity among Chinese travellers visiting the
Maldives as a destination. Ahmad, from his experience of interacting with Chinese travellers visiting the Maldives, learnt that sun and sea are
not the preferred tourism products of Chinese travellers. He was told many times by Chinese tourists that they prefer sightseeing and
shopping as tourist activities. Given this background, he decided to investigate Chinese travellers' perceptions of the Maldives image as a
tourist destination.
