Introduction

Hydrobromination is a reaction in which bromine is added to an alkene or alkyne molecule, creating a new C-Br bond. This reaction occurs when a bromine molecule (Br2) is added to an alkene or alkyne molecule in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst, such as aluminum chloride (AlCl3). This reaction can be used to create a variety of products, such as brominated alkenes, brominated alkanes, and bromo-alcohols. Additionally, the product of hydro bromination is highly dependent on the structure of the alkene or alkyne molecule.
