One of the critical moments early on in the The Lord of the Rings trilogy is the meeting in Rivendell to decide who should take the One Ring to Mordor. Gimli the Dwarf won’t hear of an Elf doing it, whereas Legolas (who is an Elf) feels similarly about Gimli. Boromir (who is a Man) is opposed to either of them taking charge of the Ring. And then there is Frodo the Hobbit, who has the weakest desire to take the Ring but knows that someone must throw it into the fires of Mordor. In modeling this scenario as a game, assume there are four players: Boromir, Frodo, Gimli, and Legolas. (There were more, of course, including Aragorn and Elrond, but let’s keep it simple.) Each of them has a preference ordering, shown in the following table, as to who should take on the task of carrying the One Ring.
Of the three non-Hobbits, each prefers to take on the task himself. Each would prefer that other than themselves and Frodo, no one should take the Ring. As for Frodo, he doesn’t really want to do it and prefers to do so only if no one else will. The game is one in which all players simultaneously make a choice among the four people. Only if they all agree—a unanimity voting rule is put in place—is someone selected; otherwise, no one takes on this epic task. Find all symmetric Nash equilibria.

- Suppose that the University of Alabama and Clemson are making spending decisions for theupcoming year. Assume that Alabama is currently spending $15 million on their recruiting andfacilities, and Clemson is spending $10 million. Each team has an additional $5 million to spendor keep as profits. If they both choose to not spend the additional $5 million then Alabama hasa 60% chance of getting the highest quality quarterback recruit to commit to them (getting thecommitment of the player is the goal). However, if they both choose to spend the additional $5million then there is a 57% chance that Alabama gets the high quality quarterback to commit. IfAlabama spends the additional $5 million but Clemson doesn’t then there is a 67% chanceAlabama gets the recruit. However, if Alabama does NOT spend the additional $5million butClemson does then there is a 50% change either team gets the recruit’s commitment. Setup thepayoff matrix and label the players, their strategies, and their payoffs, and…You and a coworker are assigned a team project on which your likelihood or a promotion will be decidedon. It is now the night before the project is due and neither has yet to start it. You both want toreceive a promotion next year, but you both also want to go to your company’s holiday party that night. Each of you wants to maximize his or her own happiness (likelihood of a promotion and mingling withyour colleagues “on the company’s dime”). If you both work, you deliver an outstanding presentation. If you both go to the party, your presentation is mediocre. If one parties and the other works, yourpresentation is above average. Partying increases happiness by 25 units. Working on the project addszero units to happiness. Happiness is also affected by your chance of a promotion, which is depends on howgood your project is. An outstanding presentation gives 40 units of happiness to each of you; an aboveaverage presentation gives 30 units of happiness; a mediocre presentation gives 10 units…Suppose that a large discount retailer with a lot of purchasingpower in a supply chain requires that all suppliers incorpo-rate a new information system that will reduce the cost of placing orders between the retailer and its suppliers as wellas between the suppliers and their suppliers. Suppose alsothat order quantities and lead times are related; the smallerthe order quantity the shorter the lead time from suppliers.Assume that all members of the supply chain use a continu-ous review system and EOQ order quantities. Explain the im-plications of the new information system for the supply chainin general and the inventory systems of the supply chainmembers in particular
- Actual authority is the authoritya partner appears to have to third parties external to the partnership.O. TrueO. FalseSuppose you run a marketing survey and find you have two types of customers high-value customers willing to pay 16 and low-va consumers willing to pay just 10. Your survey tells you that there are equal numbers of high- and low- value customers. Obviously , have two possible options price high (16) and sell only to the high value group, or price low (10) and sell to everyoneThe costs incurred is 5 per unit and sales only happen to high -value consumers 50 % of the timeWhich price should you choose ? Select the correct response price high price low it depends price both high and lowIn a typical product mix model, where a companymust decide how much of each product to produceto maximize profit, there are sometimes customerdemands for the products. We used upper-boundconstraints for these: Don’t produce more than youcan sell. Would it be realistic to have lower-boundconstraints instead: Produce at least as much as isdemanded? Would it be realistic to have both (wherethe upper bounds are greater than the lower bounds)?Would it be realistic to have equality constraints:Produce exactly what is demanded?
- Dataware is trying to determine whether to give a $10 rebate, cut the price $6, or have no price change on a software product. Currently, 40,000 units of the product are sold each week for $45 apiece. The variable cost ofthe product is $5. The most likely case appears to bethat a $10 rebate will increase sales 30%, and half of all people will claim the rebate. For the price cut, the most likely case is that sales will increase 20%.a. Given all other assumptions, what increase in sales from the rebate would make the rebate and price cut equally desirable?b. Dataware does not really know the increase in sales that will result from a rebate or price cut. However, the company is sure that the rebate will increase sales by between 15% and 40% and that the pricecut will increase sales by between 10% and 30%.Perform a sensitivity analysis that could be used to help determine Dataware’s best decision.O $300 Question 11 3 pts Consumers are willing to pay a higher price for a brand-name product as opposed to a generic product because O they are willing to pay more for the privilege of watching the firm's commercials. O consumers maximize utility by purchasing the most expensive products. O a brand name provides a signal about a product's quality and reliability. O a brand-name product itself is always of higher quality. 3 pts Question 12 As competitors enter a market, demand becomes more meaning the demand curveSome companies play up their home-country roots asthey expand internationally, such as the way BMW andMercedes emphasize their German engineering. ShouldH&M promote some aspect of its “Swedishness”? Why orwhy not?
- COVID-19 has undoubtedly been a defining time in our generation's history, with effects on global economies comparable insome instances to what was experienced during the Great Depression of the 1930s. The pandemic has also recalled theeconomic shockwaves of the Global Financial Crisis of 2008/09. One can argue that this episode is like none seen beforebecause it hasn’t emanated from economic factors. The pandemic is also having a broad spectrum of effects on economiesand exchange rates globally.34.
