The Pledge of Professionalism to me, is essentially a guide as to what we must strive to be and how we must behave. In the pledge, many aspects such as the doctor’s knowledge, thought process and, behaviour and lifestyle were all touched upon, suggesting the importance of the particular aspect, as well as how it should be maintained. In my opinion, the significance of the pledge is to hold the doctors that take this pledge accountable for their life and behaviours towards other people and in the society as a whole. Maintaining a certain standard of professionalism is vital in any profession, especially in medicine, considering we have the lives of other people in our hands. Because of this, our work ethic, thought process and behaviours should be in line with the work we have chosen. This profession requires us to help people and build new connections and collaborate with colleagues to make medicine reach newer levels and for this, we need to have certain qualities such as being a team player and hardworking, being accepting regardless of race or gender, among others. It also mentioned mixing science and art to find newer, more innovative methods of treating patients which is vital for patient care. The world is constantly evolving, and we need to evolve along with it. In the pledge, I felt that everything that was mentioned was important, especially being tolerant of other people, respecting other people as well as their privacy, and always looking for new forms of treatment for providing people with the best healthcare.
