On earth every population is limited in their growth i.e. once the population reaches its limits growth regulators come into action. There are two type of growth regulators:
Density dependent limiting factors
Density independent limiting factors
- Density dependent limiting factors - In this per capita growth rate get low with increase in population density. This density dependent limiting factor give logistic pattern of growth, in which population of organism comes to level once its reaches the carrying capacity of enviroment. Some common example of density dependent limiting factors are,
Competition within population (intraspecific compitition): In this when organisms reaches there highest desity, there will be competition for food, water, shelter or for other resources required for the survival. This compitition results in limition the individual popuplation.
Predators: Population with higher density mostly attracts large number of predators. These predators, without sparing anyone start eating resulting in decrease in he population of organism.
Disease and parasites: When the population increase, the spreding of the disease also very fast among the individuals. This could lead to large number of deaths at same time, lowering the population of individual organism.
Waste accumulation: As the growth increases, waste products and the toxic substance also increses. this toxic substance may kill them only results in limiting the population.
- Density independent: It affects the per density population growth without dependent on how dense population is. For eg. wild fire, in forest, now the fire will kill the individual who are unlucky and is not depend on how much size of that perticular individual was.
