Chapter 12.4, Problem 1EGDQ
Explanation of Solution
Mention whether ethics on buying in on a cost and material project is acceptable from categorical imperative and utilitarian point of view:
Kant’s Categorical Imperative:
Categorical imperative is that in all situations the complete requirements must be followed and it should be acceptable as an end in it.
- According to Kant One is being ethical if he or she is willing to publish their work. This is called Sunshine Law.
- Estimating material costs is ethical only if everyone is as transparent as possible. In a negotiation it can be observed that not everything needs to be transparent and for a confidential strategic push; some parts needs to be transparent.
- As some companies may want higher profit margins than others, these material costs are kept confidential...

You will be using the Basic COCOMO Model for quick and rough estimates. The Basic COCOMO Model is broken into three different (organic, semi-detached, and embedded) categories. Boehm's definition of organic, semi- detached, and embedded systems is as follow:
1. Organic - A software project is said to be an organic type if the team size required is adequately small, the problem is well understood and has been solved in the past and also the team members have a nominal experience regarding the problem.
2. Semi-detached - A software project is said to be a Semi-detached type if the vital characteristics such as team-size, experience, knowledge of the various programming environments lie in between that of organic and Embedded. The projects classified as Semi-Detached are comparatively less familiar and difficult to develop compared to the organic ones and require more experience and better guidance and creativity. For instance, compilers or…
Below mentioned is the abstract of the study.
This article reports on a study for which the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) served as a theoretical framework. The purpose of the exploration was to gain an understanding of students’ perceptions of the adoption of social media, namely Facebook and Twitter, in an academic library setting. The study applied the constructs as described by the UTAUT, namely, performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions, to explore students’ perceived behavioral intentions to use social media. A sample of 30 students were selected from two universities, one in Belgium (University of Antwerp) and one in South Africa (University of Limpopo), to gain better insight of the students’ perceptions regarding the adoption and use of social media, in particular Facebook and Twitter, by the academic libraries at these two universities. The study…

- For the scenario below, analyze it by completing the following two phases. There are several examples of how to analyze a scenario in the text book starting on page 474. Brainstorming phase List all the people and organizations affected. (They are the stakeholders.) List risks, issues, problems, and consequences. List benefits and identify who gets each benefit. In cases where there is not a simple yes or no decision, but rather one has to choose some action, list possible actions. Analysis phase Identify responsibilities of the decision maker. (Consider responsibilities of both general ethics and professional ethics.) Identify rights of stakeholders. (It might be helpful to clarify whether they are negative or positive rights, in the sense of Section 1.4.2.) Consider the impact of each potential action on the stakeholders. Draw a class diagram to document the requirements. ● ● In a university, there are different classrooms, offices, and departments. A person working at the university can be a professor or an employee. In other words, she purposefully under-designed the less expensive solution and produced an estimate for the higher-end version that she knew would come in over budget if it were chosen. She also knew that SLS had a tendency to hire design consultants to build projects. Is it unethical to produce a consulting report that steers a client toward a specific outcome? Suppose instead that Susan had prepared a report that truthfully recommended the more expensive option as the better choice for SLS, in her professional opinion. Further, suppose that SLS management chose the less expensive option solely to reduce costs, without regard for the project's security outcomes. Would it be ethical of Susan to urge reconsideration of such a decision?arrow_forward
