Concept explainers
A skydiver jumps out of a plane. At first, the skydiver falls faster and faster, but then the skydiver reaches a point where he falls with a constant speed. After falling at a constant speed for a while, the skydiver's parachute opens and the skydiver falls at a slower constant speed until he lands safely on the ground. Describe two different functions that fit with this story about a skydiver. In each case, sketch a graph that could be the graph of the function. Indicate how these graphs fit with the story.
