2.3 Assignment Danny Goldberg argues in "The Government Should Not Restrict Media Marketed to Children” that FTC regulation on media is affecting the entertainment industry’s profits on production of violent media content. The specific bill introduced is the Media Marketing Accountability Act of 2001. He believes that there should not be a restriction placed on marketing media to children. Goldberg posits that FTC regulation is a “radical bill” that takes away the power of parents to determine what is appropriate for their children (Goldberg). An additional point the author makes is that many of the restricted media, specifically rap music, is produced by African Americans; therefore, there is a culture bias on these restrictions. He states that that these solutions could be possibly be in the form of new regulations. Hatch believes that media can be used to promote goodness in the world, and that violent media does just the opposite. He goes on to explain that research has shown a correlation between use of violent media in children and real life aggressive or violent behavior. Additionally, Hatch states that although research supports this correlation, there is still violent media being marketed to children. He more specifically uses video games and music as examples. He supports these points referring to a study conducted by the National Institute on Media and the Family which showed that some violent video games are marketed directly to children (Hatch).
