“Some people talk to animals. Not many listen thought. That’s the problem.” - A.A. Milne. I feel that this means some people command the animals to work, while not understanding what the animal also wants or needs. In the debate, “Are Zoos Bad News?”, written anonymously, the author reports the ethical and unethical reasoning between zoos. This came after the attack on three victims. In my opinion, the existence of zoos should endure seeing that it educates people, zoos can alter the behaviour of people to animals and zoos promote wildlife conservation. To begin with, zoos must stay because it educates people. As mentioned in the text, “He says zoos play a major role in educating people about animals and promoting wildlife conservation.” In other words, the man explained that zoos educate people and teach them new things about animals that they haven’t known before. Furthermore, humans get an opportunity to view animals they never saw before. What the animal does can allow people to study animals and learn new things. Therefore, zoos are a requirement in our society considering humans get educated about animals. Additionally, these facilities change people’s deeds to animals. The author states, “A National Science Foundation study …show more content…
As is written in the article, “He says zoos play a major role in educating people about animals and promoting wildlife conservation.” Ultimately, what the person is trying to clarify is how zoos play a vital role in our associations to conserve flora and fauna. Conjointly, without zoos, people will waste the wildlife and continue to pollute the earth. Without zoos, animal life would cease to exist. You may go against the grain and consider that zoos must be banned for the fact that they are very deadly to the environment. Nevertheless, I still hold my conviction that zoos are a must. At length, zoos persuade the public to conserve the
One of the most fun, visually amazing functions to visit are zoo's. Growing up as a kid going to the zoo was so much fun and basically guaranteed a great day out. People have been complaining and questioning the role of zoo's for a long time now. Some claim that it actually kills the animals off faster. Others claim that zoo's actually help protect and preserve the lives of these animals. Only one can make a reasonable argument by studying sources, and finding out statistics. Based off of the articles, "The Stripes Will Survive", "The Zoos Go Wild", and "Our Beautiful Macaws and Why They Need Enrichment", we can truly get in-depth analysis about the role zoo's play.
She claims that while zoos are not necessary for education, the “educative message delivered by zoos is, at best, distorted and, at worst, damaging to the cause that the zoos purport to champion—that is; the conservation of species.” Because she does not consider the educational opportunities and programs that zoos and zoological parks can offer, so her opinion on these establishments is unfavorable. However, by offering a wide variety of programs and opportunities, zoos create a unique experience for their visitors. If the animals are under proper care, there is no reason for society to believe that zoos are “cruel and
Zoos have always been criticized because some claim that animals are being abused and mistreated due to the lack and care of certain zoos. However, zoos actually help many animals with research and are critically important for conservation purposes. People need to understand that zoos have programs that breed endangered animals as well as rescue programs for exotic animals that people are no longer able to support. Also, they have many hands on activities that allow people to get more connected to animals. In addition, zoos do not only focus on animals. They focus on environmental problems/concerns as well. Zoos help us stay educated about environmental impacts and animal care.
Animals kept in zoos has always been a controversial decision. Zoos have been around for 4,000 years. Many people argue about the impact a zoo has on an animal and the world. According to the article, ”Zoos: The Historical Debate”, “Some people argue that zoos play an important role in conservation of endangered animals, others say that zoos do more harm than good.” I believe that zoos play an important role in conservation. They also educate us about animals. Finally, zoos entertain us in many ways. In my opinion, zoos impact the world in a good way.
Zoos present a certain blend of nature and culture. They have always provided a way to bring natural wildlife and urban Americans together as a means of entertainment. Yet, throughout the years the role of zoos have changed. Though once used for amusement, zoos are now being used for education on preservation and the welfare of endangered species. One may wonder where and how the idea of zoos started and just how they, and the environment around them, have changed throughout history.
Moreover, zoos help to repopulate endangered animal species such as the California condor, a vulture. As it says in the article “Zoos: The Historical Debate” after ten years of working
Zoos may seem fun to visit and exciting to see the animals; but what you don’t see is the suffering and depression that lies in these helpless creatures. There are many arguments whether or not zoos are good or bad, and if they should be removed or kept. Several think that zoos should be abolished or at least very much improved, due to animal cruelty. While, others want zoos to stay because it is beneficial for the animals and people. I strongly believe that zoos aren’t good for both the public and animals for numerous reasons.
There have been a lot of problems with animals in zoos. It has gotten to the point where zoos are hated and looked upon as a places of animal torture. Are zoos really that bad? Turns out, they are. They do not have enough space, they do not allow the animals to communicate with each other, and they sell the animals to cruel circuses.
“As a businessman, I believe that we should not invest in a zoo. The zoo would be a waste of money. People are hardly impressed or fascinated by an animal locked in a cage anymore and there is a slim chance that I will get the money I invested back. A zoo can take years to build and acres of land that we don’t have to spare. We’d be better off building factories in place of the zoo, and they’d make twice as much money twice as fast. While baby animals may bring in some visitors and money, the incentive to breed them can lead to overpopulation. If we built the zoo, we would have only accounted for a specific amount of animals. Breeding can lead to reduced space for all of them and we may need to let some go. Some people
Do you know that feeling when you have no privacy or personal space and you just want to express violence, well that is how zoo animals feel every day. I am against zoos because animals are not able to run free, can be mistreated, and can cause animals to come out aggressive towards others.
Can you try to think how the animals fell. We should get rid of zoo’s because the animals have way less space as they would in the wild, and the climate is way different in zoos as it would be in the wild.
The topic of zoos and whether or not they’re humane have quickly become one of the biggest controversial topics in the past twenty years. There is not much of a ‘middle’ perspective in this debate, rather people tend to lie on two completely opposite ends of the spectrum when displaying their beliefs pertaining to the zoo debate. I chose to research this topic because though I have strong beliefs, I think that, on this matter specifically, people often jump to a certain side without any prior research or actual education on the subject. I think that it’s important to understand both sides of the argument of zoos before sustaining a side. Another reason why I chose this topic was to moreso educate myself and to make sure that the knowledge I
Some associations are claiming that zoos should be banned because it’s having negative impact on the animals. They reject the idea that zoos are made to preserve some species from extinction. Their argument is that if zoos were really made for that solely purpose then the species in the zoos will not be kept for public viewing. These associations propose
The reading states that zoos are essential to a modern culture that places value in animal life and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor states that zoos do not provide all these benefits stated in the reading passage and refutes each of the authors' reasons.
Some people agree that animals should be kept in the zoo. They said it would be safer for the animals and they won’t be extinct. The amount of possibilities of them dying, shot by hunters or any other reason, still higher than the chances of their survival. Food and shelter are provided, medicine, and their breeding is being controlled. And many of the wild animals in zoos are ones that are on the endangered list as their amounts are rapidly diminishing. Letting them loose and returning them to the wild is not necessarily a safe option. (Mylot, 2007) In fact, zoo can be one of the educational studies for children and people who are interested with animals. Zoo is the only place that we can have an opportunity to see animal’s life really close and sometimes we can touch them. Zoos also provide lots of information about certain animals, children can have chance to get out of the classroom and learn so they can see natural beauty from different species of animals. Even children can see them from discovery channel but that’s really different if you see animal in real world, for an example, if you see crocodile, snake or shark in the movie, maybe you won’t afraid than you see the real one. According to Tudge, (1992, p.56) Zoos are the place where people can study animals and their habitat, even scientist don’t need to go
