Artificial Intelligence: Way of the Future, or Beginning of the End? Christian Scherer April 9, 2015 NOS 110 Henkle Christian Scherer NOS 110 Henkle 4/9/15 Artificial Intelligence: Way of the Future, or Beginning of the End? Artificial Intelligence, this has been a big topic in technology and science news recently especially after Steven Hawking’s comment on the subject. But before diving head first into whether or not Artificial Intelligence is a good or bad thing you must first know what artificial intelligence is, and how it has been developing and advancing along. After that can the discussion start about artificial intelligences plausibility, and if it is really a good idea, or if it could be the end of humanity as we know it. What is Artificial Intelligence? Artificial intelligence or AI is in simple terms, the ability for a computer to learn on its own, without any input from the user, and it has the ability to think on its own and make its own decisions and is also able to understand human intelligence. This is done by using tools in many fields. These fields include, but are not limited to computer science, natural language and speech, machine learning and patter recognition, and computer vision (Luke Muehlhauser, 2014). This also includes psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, economics, probability, and optimization and logic. These are only the beginnings of what is required to meet what is needed to even to begin to scratch the topic of
Artificial intelligence, or AI for short, is “the intelligence exhibited by machines or software.” AI is found in many forms in our society, from video games to traffic predictions to the autocorrect in our phones. When machine personalities are no longer distinguishable from human ones, however, there will be implications for humanity. This advancement will at first be met with skepticism, and the first people to interact with these AI will not consider them sentient beings. Artificial intelligence will eventually be complex enough to exhibit human-like personality, and it is at this point that we will embrace machines, and redefine selfhood to include artificial beings. Once we consider AI sentient, they will rapidly advance until they are
Artificial Intelligence is the taking over of machines to do tasks that would normally require a human to do. The idea of artificial intelligence has been around for years, appearing in movies and television shows to show what the future might bring. Artificial intelligence is becoming closer to a reality and now society must question if it should have a role in society. Artificial intelligence has many flaws at the moment making it impractical for use until society can address the issues facing it like the loss of jobs and how to control the use of AI.
When someone brings up the term “artificial intelligence”, a variety of connotations tend to arise, connotations that often are unfair or unrepresentative of the true real-world applications of such a term. Due to the incidentally fear-mongering nature of the media, artificial intelligence can refer to something as basic as a robotic arm in a factory, as well as the implied extinction and/or enslavement of the human race as caused by robo-revolution. As of today, however, when applied in the world of modern technology, artificial intelligence is defined as any innovation that performs a task usually completed by humans. Of course, with this definition, artificial intelligence holds the potential for both societal harm and benefit, and its fate
Artificial Intelligence is as intelligent as human beings and perform intellectual tasks as human beings can do. According to the Singularity Summit (2012), it may happen in future, which will be based on inputs from experts. There is no predefined definition for Artificial Intelligence. Generally, it should be capable of learning, representing knowledge, planning, taking decisions under uncertainty, communicating in a natural language as well as using these skills towards common goals to be a complete Artificial Intelligence.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the branch of computer science, which concentrates on the intelligence of machines, and involves applying the principles of reasoning, knowledge planning, learning, communication, perception, and controlling objects to emulate the human brain. The most recognizable AI application is robotics from Hollywood cinema, and includes films such as; I Robot, Transformers, Wall-e, WarGames, A.I., The Terminator, Robocop, Iron Man, and Star Wars to name a few, which is fictional not an actual representation of AI. Robotics applications is only one of three aspects of AI, which also includes
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is portrayed in many science fiction films such as I, robot, The Terminator, Ex Machina, etc., or novels as the future that holds evil in our society. Engineers all over the world are currently developing and making AI a reality. I know that my major is involved with the project intending to bring AI into reality which is interesting, but it still has me wondering if this is a good idea. I imagine AI as the future such that we will have them at school, in our house and even our workplace. It is a possibility that AI will be used to help students and professors by solving critical equations faster than ever or helping them out in the subjects they are struggling with. They can help clean around the house and neighborhood, implement future ideas to companies, and even join the police force to stop crime. They do not necessarily need arms, legs, or eyes to commit such actions. As a Computer Engineer, I believe that AI will have the capability to protect and serve us, but if they are given the freedom to think and act, then they can also harm us. I assume the engineers working with AI, will program them to restrict actions that can harm this society and inspect them weekly to accomplish this restriction. We should keep an open mind towards any consequences and benefits AI may bring to this world. I can see drones roaming around freely while having the task to protect us, android devices advising and having a normal conversation with a person, and
Society today is greatly influenced by technology and the impact it has had within the past 20 years. One of the largest breakthroughs, though, is Artificial Intelligence (A.I.). The technology associated with A.I. has greatly developed in the past years, and is only making devices smarter. When someone mentions technology, or even the technological breakthroughs the world has gone through recently, many people go straight to smartphones and computers. A.I. is often overlooked, or put into a general category of "technology". Yet, artificial intelligence is something that should we not be so quick to dismiss, and should be something that gets people talking and even excited for what the future holds.
Artificial intelligence has become a big controversy between scientists within the past few years. Will artificial intelligence improve our communities in ways we humans can’t, or will they just cause danger to us? I believe that artificial intelligence will only bring harm to our communities. There are multiple reasons why artificial intelligence will bring danger to humanity, some of them being: you can’t trust them, they will lead to more unemployment, and they will cause more obesity.
The first step in getting anywhere with this debate must begin with defining what artificial intelligence is exactly. Artificial Intelligence, also known as AI, is the area of computer science focusing on creating machines that can engage in the human behaviors of intelligence.
It is something that has been brought up and popularized in movies and books, and is a subject matter that a lot of people enjoy reading up on. The benefits of artificially intelligences out weighs the risks, but it is something that should be treaded carefully. Based on movies and known theories artificially intelligence has the possibility of becoming more advanced than humans can control and possibly take over the planet altogether. Before any of that can happen; however, we must first create it.
Artificial intelligence, or AI, is a field of computer science that attempts to simulate characteristics of human intelligence or senses. These include learning, reasoning, and adapting. This field studies the designs of intelligent
Artificial Intelligence: Cognitive Ability or Information Processing Computers have become an integral part of our everyday lives. We rely upon these machines to perform innumerable tasks that we often take for granted. Most people realize that computers are able to perform the multitude of functions as a consequence of the programming they receive. These programs give computers a set of instructions that governs their transition from one information processing state to another. Thus, computational machines are able to respond to a certain set of inputs with a certain range of outputs. In order to comprehend programs one needs only to describe these instructions in functional terms. In this regard, computer programs are extremely similar
Artificial Intelligence is a topic within the public media that has existed for decades, but is now a concern due to the reality of human advancement and innovation in the field of science and technology. Many people believe that computers will become self-aware or sentient and view humanity as a disposable resource and gain supremacy. Reasoning that research on the technology should halt and not become more advance. Whereas others believe they will help catapult research and the economy forward, supporting the operations and innovations the technology offers. The complicated and divided solutions to the debate aren’t obvious, but there are more benefits to improving artificial intelligence than there is stopping it. Therefore, the negative effects people believe will occur can be resolved.
Artificial intelligence is a concept in computer science in which scientist develop programs to possess intelligent human characteristic such as the ability of human cognition. Artificial Intelligence (A.I) has developed over many years and has incorporated into our daily lifestyle; these include voice recognition/ assistance such as Siri and Cortana. Another example is our interactive devices to flying drones to Amazon Prime for delivery. They use Wi-Fi-sensors to control the activity of drone to perform certain actions such as delivering packages and much more.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is defined as being “the ability of a machine to perform at the level of a human expert.”
