Week three’s devotional really touched me. Many people think they can do everything on their own, that they do not need God in their life. I feel that we all need God to help us get through the challenges in our lives, so we can grow and learn from those challenges. John 14:26 says, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you” (NASB). John 14:26 supports my feelings when it comes to needing God, as He will teach us. Only He knows what each of us need and when He can teach us and help us grow in life; even if we did not understand the lesson at the time. As a human being, I can be stubborn at times and think that I do not need God in my life, but He always finds a way to remind me that I do need Him. It is so easy to get off track and forget the important things in life, but as a leader it is important for me to set good examples to my followers. The best example I can think of is to show my followers how much God truly and unconditionally, loves each and every one of His children. …show more content…
I have always felt that communication was the most important skill to have as a leader. During the class interview with Dr. Kerrie Berends, she reinforced my thoughts when she stated, “communication is the most important leadership skill to have when working remotely” (class discussion, July 1, 2015). As a supervisor of twenty-two people that I do not see on a daily basis, I am always expressing the importance of communication in order to keep the program running smoothly. I often say to my employees, or potential employees for that matter, “communication is key.” I have several ways that I communicate with my employees in order to stay connected with them such as email, text messages and phone calls. Memos are used if the matter is not
In the book “Decoded,” rapper and businessman Jay-Z describes the emergence of hip hop culture while sharing his childhood memories, life challenges, and passions. Along with Jay-Z’s personal narrative, he provides an explanation for his song lyrics to educate readers about hip hop’s importance, his life, and national issues. Thus, he creates several arguments about hip hop’s purpose in the music industry. Two of Jay-Z’s main arguments consisted of hip hop being a form of art and the story of a hustler. This is especially true when considering how Jay-Z defines hip hop, analyzes supporting evidence, and interprets rap lyrics.
LGBT representation is a touchy subject, and Amy is one of the few brave enough to explore the topic. However, she left more than a few holes in her argument, biting off more than she could chew. Her position on the misrepresentation of bisexuals in TV was ineffective at persuading her audience, because of her lack of concrete evidence, misdirection of audiences, and contradictory statements.
“McCandless didn’t conform particularly well to the bush casualty stereotype.” Jon Krakauer, in his book Into The Wild, argues that McCandless was a unique personality who yearned for adventure. He supports his claim by the usage of epigraphs, interviews with McCandless’s acquaintances, and various maps that are indicative of where the protagonist travelled. Krakauer's purpose is to use an argumentative structure in order to convince the audience that McCandless was more complex than previously known. He uses a nostalgic and commanding tone in order to emotionally appeal to an audience who may have originally had different opinions on McCandless. In Into The Wild, Krakauer employs techniques of ethos and speaker in order to thoroughly convey
Nonconformity allows people to go against a prevailing rule so that they may do as they please.
Many people wish they can drop everything important to them and isolate themselves from society; very few people will even attempt this, but Chris McCandless breaks societal norms to accomplish this goal. In Into the Wild, John Krakauer tells the story of this young man’s life to inspire the audience to chase their dreams through the use of logos, involved sentence, and anecdotes.
In recent years, God has become a very important part of my life. I am determined to learn more about God and look forward to seeing what he has in store for me and my family. At one time God was not a big part of my life, I did not attend church regularly or feel close to him. I have always believed in God and Jesus Christ as our savior, but did not actively seek a closer relationship with him. I feel that much of that changed when I accepted my current job in a church based preschool program. After taking the position in the preschool, I was then offered a position in the church’s nursery on Sunday mornings. I accepted this position also and my son and I started attending Church every Sunday. In the time since, my husband, myself, and our children have all joined the Church, been baptized, and become very active in our Church. I feel that this was God’s plan for us all along. I feel that God guides our decisions each and everyday, and I now use prayer to seek his guidance for our lives.
Starting this year, I thought English 102 was just going to be another general education requirement I needed to have in order to graduate. English has never been my favorite subject, so I guess it is safe to say that I was not super excited about this class. However, this class turned out to be different then I thought. It turned out to be more useful then I originally thought. English 102 was both helpful and fairly simple because of what what I learned, the effort I put in and how prepared I was.
1a. Know and understand- to perceive as the fact or the truth; to grasp the meaning of an idea
Hello Rozhnaz! This writing looks better than the previous one that I revised; congrats! You also gain improvement in terms of the use of academic vocabularies in this essay. Some notes to be considered here are the minor things such as punctuation, redundant expression, and capitalization. Here are several takes on your writing:
The 13th amendment of 1865 made people consider the use of slavery as a legal form of punishment for criminals. The amendment raises concerns over if African Americans were ever actually free in the United States. Although it states that the institution of slavery is illegal, it also states that slave labor is legal if in the form of punishment for incarcerated criminals. In 13th, Ava DuVernay employs the use of ethos, logos, and pathos through a variety of ways. Through the use of these techniques, Ava DuVernay connects them with vivid imagery to really drive her point that the 13th amendment did not necessarily end slavery, it just added a loophole that enslavers were able to use.
In the past, I have done many research papers for science, history, and English classes. For my AP English classes, I learned how to identify rhetoric and analyze how it affects a piece of writing as a whole. In chemistry and biology classes, I researched a certain chemical reaction and wrote a paper on why that happens. In AP US History class I spent hours on learning how to write a grey area thesis and finding evidence to support both sides of an argument. A strength I have as a writer is that I have experience in doing research in most fields of study. I took various AP classes in high school and have written papers in most of them. A weakness that I have as a writer is the inability to use concise and precise diction. I feel as though I
Commands and directives are used to express a request or give instructions. It is obvious that in a cooking tutorial it will dominate over other types of speech as the audience is continuosly given insctructions, step by step, on how to make a cheesecake in this case. Goodwin, Engle and West researched the use of commands and directives, by observing a group play of boys ang girls in Philadephia. They found that boys used directives more explicitibly to establish their status which were then called 'aggravated' directives, while girls generally preffered to use less forceful directives.
In Marjane Satrapi's word-specific panel about refugees fleeing north on page 89, she indicates the perilous situation of the war through taxis escaping flaming iconography. The bombing of border towns in the Iran-Iraq war forces residents to abandon their homes and belongings in the hope of finding refuge in the northern cities. The foreboding, chaotic scene underscores a period of turmoil in Iranian history. The words of the panel state, “After Abadan, every border town was targeted by bombers. Most of the people living in those areas had to flee northward, far away from the Iraqi missiles.” Satrapi sets the backdrop of warfare with intense, slightly militaristic words such as “targeted,” “flee,” and “far away”. This being a word-specific panel, the graphic
First I want to speak in unambiguous and unequivocal terms: I repudiate all the rappers promoting failure through their rhymes about selling drugs, abusing women, and abandoning their responsibilities as men. You are all lost and a shame upon our people. Your values are decrepit; your values are out of sync with the norms of society. It amazes me how you promote a lifestyle that only leads to incarceration, broken families, and mass ignorance yet the youth still gravitates towards your message like it's the blue print to success. A lot of our men are a shadow of what they should be. A lot our men have failed their women, failed their daughters, failed their sons and most importantly failed themselves. Not all black men are walking zombies
I may not have the ability to openly discuss God being in control, but I do have the ability to allow God to guide me and the ability to trust that God is providing me with everything that I need. As I continue to work with groups and families God will continue to provide me with the guidance that I need along with support to understand each group and family. As I have worked with groups, families, and individuals I have learned that I must allow God to guide me and when I become overwhelmed I have learned to put my stress into God’s hands and allow Him to guide me through each situation. It is important to me to live as Christ like as possible at all
