In the case of the Benziger Family Winery, is being faced with the decision of whether or not Chris Benziger should invest in an ISO 14000 certification. The answer is yes, he should pursue the certification in an attempt to strengthen his knowledge that his company already has about being environmentally friendly. This will strengthen his position on the market as a leader in wine industry. In pursuing the certification, he will also educate other growers on the importance of a strong environmental management system. For Benziger, this analysis can be done at an operational level since all of his employees are well-trained on the company’s environmentally friendly efforts and are shared with guests of the winery to promote the business. This is an opportunity for Benziger to bring his reputation to a high point and work towards his goal for being a world-class leader in the wine industry. Since the U.S. market is very competitive this would make him stand out since very few U.S. wineries have their ISO 14000 certification. He could enter more markets that its consumers are sensitive to environmental products and continue expanding his business to other countries. It is stated that becoming certified with the ISO 14000 is expensive. This is an investment that will pay for itself in the future. There will be revenue increases by becoming more attractive to consumers who support the environmentally safe production process. The ISO 14000 is an attempt to develop a widely accepted, uniform approach to certify that Benziger’s EMS is the best way to run a business for long term savings and making a positive contribution to the environment. In exhibit 40.4 it shows the EMS Gap Analysis and explains what policies and procedures the Benziger may or may not have in place. It explains that he does have an environmental policy in place and that he has conducted an analysis of the impact that it has on the
In Cradle to Cradle: Remaking The Way We Make Things written by Michael Braungart and William McDonough try to recreate a new way to design and manufacture things by rethinking the basic parameters in order to establish a new, better system of manufacturing, one that will ultimately replenish and restore the earth, instead of destroying it like the one that is being used now(1). The authors state that we, as humans, should approach the concept of design and manufacture in a new way that will make the whole process of manufacture, consumption, and waste a process of that works in sync with both humans and nature, rather than damaging the nature. The authors start of by criticizing the current industrial framework as fairly primitive. It is formed over one main

NBB should do more market research to determine what works best for them before entirely switching to the use of cans. As stated, “canned beer is commonly associated with mass marketed light American lager beer, budget beer and perceived inferior” (Carroll & Buchholtz, 2014). This might cause the company to lose customers and especially if most of NBB’s customers prefer bottled beer instead of canned.

However, in Global Supply Chain Management, there is also a need to protect the environment, although for more selfish reasons. Businesses need to be environmentally friendly because people around the world are catching onto the fad of “going green” and want products and companies that boast that. By having sustainable product development and sustainable transportation methods, business are both protecting the environment and attracting more consumers. This is an interesting point because one would not think that a book about best business practices would attract a business towards being more environmentally friendly, but the book is clear that that is what is
Even with the introduction of Abbott’s product, we do not expect this to change the environment as a whole at all. One of the main things that Abbott stresses in their code of conduct is that when they bring themselves to a different community, they will treat it with respect. This includes making sure that they do not let out any emissions that would harm the community and the environment. In fact, they had just introduced a new environmental program. The goal of this program is to reduce energy costs, waste, and recycle more. Through this program, Abbott will ensure that they are keeping the community that they enter safe and the environment safe as well.
Sustainable development has been a debatable concern in the past few years. To thrive for a viable environment of carefree living, countries worldwide gather to discuss the importance of this issue. However, with the sheer efforts of governments are not sufficient. With increasing awareness of environmental protection and sustainability, more eco-certification organizations and retailers form alliances to ensure the productive harmony in exploiting natural resources. An example of this kind of relationship would be IKEA carries Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified lumber and paper by which they ensure the right practice on forest management.

Canada can work with China to improve their air quality and protect their environment, by stipulating that the companies that supply Canada with goods from China must obtain the ISO 14001 certification. Furthermore, the International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) ISO 14001 is an environmental management system that helps companies reduce their environmental impact (International Organization for Standardization, n.d.). Specifically, ISO 14001 includes 5 elements: the environmental policy to adhere by, the development of company procedures to describe compliance to ISO’s policies, the implementation and operation of the company’s procedures, the audits that ensure the organization is following their procedures and ISO’s policies, and lastly the management review (ENLAR Compliance Services, 2013). As a result, if many private companies have an incentive to reduce emissions in China, there will be more focus within the country to accomplish the goal to improve their air quality. However, this may decrease profits for many Chinese company’s, which may put 10 million jobs at risk in the textile industry alone (Kane, 2014).
If capitalism is to meet the challenges that lie ahead in the twenty first century then it must quickly adapt to meet the challenges associated with the trend of global warming. The level of progress that has been achieved in regards to modeling how the planets natural operate work has reached new levels of understanding and is requiring that more drastic action be taken. This analysis first examines some of the issues related to the environment that is making the need for regulatory systems more salient. Then an overview of the tradable emission permit market mechanism will be provided in terms of its strengths and limitations.
The company became ISO 14001 certified in 2002 at the request of its parent company. Although ISO 14001 only focuses on environmental management, Aveda has expanded its environmental management system to include safety and health as additional, yet equally important services. This system is known as Aveda’s Environmental and Safety Management System (ESMS). Aveda’s ESMS requires that all new manufacturing operations employees be trained in ten areas outlined in Aveda’s ESMS Manual known as the “Orientation/Induction Training.” These areas cover required compliance training as well as additional training outlined by ISO 14001 and by Aveda’s parent company for all new manufacturing operations employees working at the Blaine, MN facility (Aveda, 2003). Recently in April 2015, Aveda was awarded the “Trashies Awards” by GreenBlue’s Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC) and Smithers Pira. The achievement has highlighted another factor in achieving environmental sustainability through the products’ packaging. Therefore, in this research, the report will discuss how Aveda’s product packaging can be environmental friendly and revealing the truly beauty of human beings for safeguarding the future generations’ world.(SUSTPACK,

Monitoring system plays a huge role in sustainability attainment. Indicators play a significant part in monitoring frameworks and are extremely significant and could help us track the outcomes of arriving at success levels in sustainability. Indicators for instance, ISO 14000 could help us get recognised by individuals as an ethical firm. The ISO accreditation will help them maintain the benchmark. The
For any organization, waste management is one of the top priorities for environmental sustainability strategy. Waste management entails a responsible operation toward the environment and thus ISO certification. The ISO 14001 Environment Management System (EMS) standard is geared to the management of the immediate and long term environmental impacts of an organization’s processes, services, and products. Under the ISO 14001 framework for environmental management best practice, organizations improve their business sustainably; comply with the appropriate environmental legislation, deliver operational improvements, mitigate the risk of pollution incidents, and curtail their environmental footprint.
Environmental Management systems and principles have been incorporated by organizations and corporations since the introduction of these concepts. These provide the necessary guidance for companies to reduce their impacts on the environment. Environmental Management is not only being applied by the United States (US) regions, but along all countries within the world. Within few decades, other approaches such as social responsibility and sustainable development have arisen. According to ISO 26000:2010 Guidance on Social Responsibility:
