Geography has always been a unique and picturesque part of Greece. Greece has amazing mountains and landscapes. Having the geography Greece has, has both positive and negative effects on Greece but the results are ultimately negative. Like the lack of communication and the isolation between communities. Also the natural disaster were negative too.
One positive effect that the geography has on Greece it that they can grow olives easily. The land conditions that are favorable for growing olives are hot and dry climates, which Greece has so it is a great spot to grow them in. In document 4 it says that, “the Greeks believed that the god Athena gave them the first olive tree as a gift and they thought it was so priceless they named their city after Athena.” Olives and olive oil became one of the most valuable items that Greece had and traded. Mount Olympus is the highest mountain range in Greece. The mountain is 9,570 feet tall and it divides Thessaly from Macedonian. The Greeks believed that upon Mount Olympus there were gods. In document 2 is says,”they worshiped the gods and believed they controlled every part of daily life like the weather, crops, love, money, and business.” This was a positive for them because the gods are responsible for the good and it is out of their control so they will have less stress and the gods could give them good thing in return.
One of the negatives that the geography had on Greece was the common natural disasters. Greece’s environment had several active volcanoes. They also had very common earthquakes. In document 3 it states the Greeks were always nervous when living in Greece because at any given moment there could be a natural disaster. This is negative because frequently the volcanoes would erupt and earthquakes would happen and they would destroy their cities and they would have to move somewhere else or rebuild
