Do School Uniforms Improve Education? Inappropriately dressing can be distracting and interpret useful class time. School uniforms help our school system in many ways. School uniforms eliminate these issues. It helps eliminate bullying because everyone will be wearing the same. School uniforms also help students score higher on test. It helps teachers not have as many issues from students. Students feel more comfortable when they all look the same so it helps be more welcoming. School uniforms improve students’ education. Students are always worried about keeping up with the latest trend that they lose focus on the education causing them not to be focused.“A dress code was put in place in an attempt to reduce fashion competition among students. Administrators thought that some students were more interested in designer names and who was and wasn't wearing them than in schoolwork” (Kizis). This would be a way to limit the amount of lost focus. Also a way to limit bullying. The focus wouldn’t be on fashion at all so it would be better. There would never be a word said similar to my jeans are better than yours because they are Miss Me. This would help limit bullying and help keep students focused and on task. School uniforms would allow more focus on education rather than worrying about what style or brand of clothes they're wearing.“The learning environment improved as teachers could focus more on education and less on discipline” (Clinton). The learning environment would be
Certainly, uniforms have benefits in school systems. For one, they can substantially prevent crime or violence. Uniforms replace baggy clothing that could more easily conceal weapons students may bring into school. If everyone dressed relatively the same, it would also help pinpoint if an intruder entered the school who could pose a threat to the students. Secondly, uniforms turn the focus from the clothing to the education. Instead of worrying about wearing the right outfits and fitting in, students can turn their attention and energy to their schoolwork. Lastly, school uniforms create an even playing field for students, intending to prevent bullying and even strengthen a sense of school
to wear uniforms, parents would be able to send their children to school without having to worry
Both students and teachers are frustrated by the strict dress codes that schools have. It causes teachers to send kids to the office which some may not like to do. And the students are forced to change out of whatever is breaking the dress code. Uniforms would fix the frustration of both the teachers and the students. The teachers would
School uniforms do nothing to prevent bullying. Linne Hoofnagle’s article goes on to say that, “If we convince ourselves that placing limits on clothing choices will eliminate school bullying, we are kidding ourselves” (Hoofnagle). The idea that all the harassment that takes place in school is centered around student’s wardrobes is preposterous. If you make students all dress alike the center of the bullying may move to if they have money, the presence or absence of glasses, condition of their skin, height, and weight. School faculty and administration are just looking at the superficial causes of bullying and not looking at the root of the problem. As a result, they are not only punishing the bully by
First, uniforms help improve students focus on their education. It disciplines students to take their attention away from outward appearance such as clothing and places it on actual school work. Uniforms create guidelines for the student to follow which is an aspect of life that a student needs to learn. A study of a Long Beach school found that their was a 28% drop in suspensions, 51% drop in school fights, and a 34% drop in assaults after the
School uniforms would decrease violence in many public schools because they would reduce the amount of theft that may occur, the amount of bullying that occurs on a daily basis, and the amount of attempted or successful murders that occur. Uniforms would reduce the amount of theft that occurs because every student would be wearing the same clothing. If every student is wearing the same article of clothing, students would not be tempted to steal clothing, shoes, or jewelry from one another. Uniforms would also make every student feel a sense of equality.
Furthermore, school uniforms have the potential to make schools a whole lot safer. Think of it like this – if you were to see a student walk in wearing an ugly polo shirt and sweat pants, (s)he would probably be picked on just because of what (s)he is wearing. We as humans naturally judge on what we see first, and it’s usually their face / clothing. If school uniforms were implemented in many places, then it would eradicate school violence and students wouldn’t be indignant with each other based on what they wear. Also, since everyone on school grounds is wearing their uniform, it would be easy to pinpoint unwanted visitors and be one step ahead. Not to mention it would help kids with less money evade the bullying and teasing that they would usually receive, which brings me to my next point.
School uniforms help schools, academic reputation and help families. Cost is one of the major factors in this process. Behavior is proven to be affected positively with uniforms. One recommendation, I would make is letting schools try uniforms. See if it really helps improve students in the school district and if it doesn't implement it into the school rules. Nothing bad can come from trying to see if something helps school, perform
Requiring school uniforms eliminates the chances of bullying. Bullies usually pick on kids based on what they wear. With the use of uniforms, everyone will be wearing the same clothes, not allowing the bullies to pick people out by their choice of clothing. Even those making fun of others would be wearing the same clothes as
According to Marian Wilde, who writes for GreatSchools¸ uniforms prevent gangs from forming on campus and encourage discipline (Wilde). Even Virginia Ann Bendel Draa, who wrote School Uniforms in Urban Public High Schools, said that school uniforms reduced the amount of suspensions in the school she did the study with (Draa). School Uniforms will create a safer school environment for kids because the students are less likely to get into trouble when at school while wearing school uniforms. Safer schools equals safer children. While having security guards at schools help prevent violence, they do not get rid of violence completely. Schools uniforms also decrease the amount of bullying because bullying can be triggered by many things like not having fashionable clothes (Armerding). School uniforms take away the
In conclusion, I believe that there are many benefits to wearing school uniforms. I believe that they are more affordable, they reduce bullying rates in shool and that they diminish creativity and self expression. Wearing school uniform makes students proud to be part of their school because it helps to form class or school unity and differentiates between the students and
While wearing uniforms, students have to obey and follow the rules, so they will learn how to respect others. An article reports “Teachers and principals often report that discipline problems are reduces in schools that implements a standardized dress program.” (School Uniforms). In addition, wearing school uniforms is a step of preparation for professional life. When you have a job, you will have to wear uniforms. Whether you are a doctor or a nurse, you are in the same position. School uniforms also help students to realize that they are a part of a group, so they feel liked they belong and learn to take responsibility for whatever they do.
Along with the type of shoes and clothing, kids are also killed or bullied by their race and how they race wears clothing. Therefore if we wear uniforms we will all be the same wearing the same clothing, and kids won't be bullied because we will all be wearing the same thing. Along with kids being more productive wearing a school uniform we could also show our school unity as a sign of being one.
School uniforms should definitely be used in school systems. Uniforms are both good for schools as well as for the students. Wearing uniforms will help build a sense of unity within the school. Instead of everyone as a separate team, everyone will be in the same team. Wearing uniforms will help free students of the stress of what to wear in the morning. Wearing school uniforms will help improve student individuality and improve their self-esteem.
As aforementioned, uniforms are very beneficial for a multitude of reasons. The first being how dress code issues are completely eliminated through uniforms. I mean, even here uniforms and dress code issues have been brought up a ton! I was in honors civics last trimester and we had to do an issue project about problems at this school, and how we could fix it. We had to present these things in front of Mr.Farley and a couple school administrators. Something that was majorly brought up was dress code, and how unfair it is between the genders. Think about that! Even here dress code is a big problem, and if it’s an issue here, then imagine how bad it must be at some other schools.
