PART A ACTIVITY 1 The Education Law Environment The basis of education law is when an educator or any other authority figure has the authority to lay down rules and regulations. Educators are expected to be well informed about the law and applicable Education Acts and Regulations. The law enforces the rules of behaviour that are usually considered acceptable by society on members e.g. churches, schools, etc. Education law is a collection of legal rules from a variety of legal disciplines which have to be applied in education. It also indicates what is possible and what is not possible within the education environment and it makes certain actions possible or impossible. Everyone has the right to administrative action that is lawful, reasonable, etc. Summary The Constitution radically changed the nature of South African politics and government. It represents a definite break with the past, a dispensation of constitutional supremacy replaces parliamentary sovereignty. These changes have an enormous influence on education. PART B ACTIVITY 1 Educators as professional people It is important that the image educators project both in and outside the school environment should be professionally responsible and worthy. The professionalization of any occupation is determined by the people who practise that occupation. That is why educators are placed as practitioners in the foreground. A person practising this occupation should be specialised trained, have an effective performance etc. and maintain a professional code of conduct. An educator’s professional image is made up of their own view of their profession. Their image must be one of a mature independent person with self-confidence and also takes responsibility for helping kids to become responsible adults. The teaching profession must develop its own professional pride, conscience and consciousness. Educators working conditions demands challenges as well as their contribution as community leaders. Educators must view every relationship they establish as a partnership. Educators enter partnerships with the organised teaching profession, learners, parents and
